27. July 2022In the first half of 2022, Quantron AG was able to further expand its pioneering position in the field of battery and hydrogen-electric commercial vehicles as the market leader in retrofitting in the DACH region. The specialist for sustainable passenger and freight transport was able to increase its revenue in the first six months of this year by over 360% compared to the previous year, despite the current challenges in the supply chain.
Here, the e-mobility experts from Augsburg contributed significantly by not only retrofitting used or new commercial vehicles to emission-free drives but also bringing their own developed models to the market as an OEM. One of the zero-emission fleet customers is IKEA. The furniture giant has ordered around 50 battery-electric light transporters for last-mile delivery and is already supplying over 300 customers daily in the Vienna metropolitan area with emission-free QUANTRON vehicles, saving over 197 tons of CO2 annually in this way.
Other new customers include logistics and waste management companies such as Ansorge, Breitsamer, DORR, as well as the Knorr-Bremse Group from Munich, the world market leader for braking systems for rail and commercial vehicles.
“In the last six months, the demand for emission-free commercial vehicles has increased significantly. We at QUANTRON alone have handled over 500 customer inquiries with concrete offers across Europe,” says Michael Perschke, CEO of Quantron AG. “In Germany, however, the market is blocked by the current funding practice. After the second call for financial support for commercial vehicles with alternative drives was extended until August 24, companies and municipalities are holding back their orders to have certainty about the level of funding. The current funding practice therefore acts as an investment barrier and shifts purchasing decisions and thus also the emission-reducing effects into 2023,” Perschke continues.
QUANTRON therefore expects a significant increase in revenue starting in 2023, among other things due to the heavy truck offensive with BEV and FCEV drive concepts. Despite these obstacles and the geopolitical challenges, management is confident that it can achieve the target set for 2022 of 20 million to 25 million euros.
Well-Filled Product Pipeline
In addition to retrofitting used or new commercial vehicles to emission-free drives, QUANTRON develops its own commercial vehicles as an OEM, which have strong market interest due to their short-term availability and the technology used.
In the field of passenger transport, the QUANTRON CIZARIS 12 EV is attracting international interest. The fully electric bus is already available in Northern and Southern Europe and will also be available in various variants for the DACH region starting January 2023. The very good consumption values combined with high performance are evident in the range of up to 370 km (according to SORT 2), which is achievable thanks to the proven vehicle technology and LFP4 batteries from the world-leading battery manufacturer CATL. The FCEV model is currently in development and homologation.
In the field of freight transport, QUANTRON offers the self-developed fully electric light transporter QUANTRON QARGO 4 EV. The zero-emission vehicle is ideal for last-mile delivery with a range of up to 350 km and a payload of 2,300 kg.
While QUANTRON offers fully electric vehicles for urban or short-distance use, the company relies on green hydrogen as the most efficient fuel solution for long-distance and heavy-duty operations with high payloads. In collaboration with Ballard Power Systems, the world leader in fuel cell development, several vehicles with hydrogen drive are being developed, including an FCEV heavy-duty truck (44 – 60 t), which will have its world premiere at the IAA Transportation in September.
As part of its hydrogen offensive, QUANTRON is further expanding its 360-degree ecosystem Quantron-as-a-Service (QaaS). In the future, QUANTRON aims to orchestrate the production of green hydrogen and sustainable electricity for its customers and cooperate with hydrogen filling stations as well as offer charging options, thereby significantly increasing customer acceptance for this vehicle category.
The QUANTRON team has also grown in the first six months of the year alongside the economic development. The company, founded in 2019, now employs over 110 employees from 14 nationalities, including North America, the Middle East, and Asia. More than half of them work in technical R&D and product areas.
In the run-up to the IAA, QUANTRON is working on further strategic partnerships to establish itself as a European key player in the hydrogen economy in the transport sector.
