Logistics is Training on a Large Scale Again This Year

DB Cargo Supports Smart City Loop in Project in Hamburg
2. August 2022In the coming year, the logistics service provider Dachser will put a 27-ton Hyundai Xcient on the road in Magdeburg. The emission-free truck will be used for regional distribution as well as for night line traffic to Berlin. Another hydrogen fuel cell truck, the Enginius Bluepower with a total weight of 19 tons, will start delivering for Dachser in downtown Hamburg from mid-2023.
(Kempten/Magdeburg) Dachser is advancing the practical testing of emission-free truck drive technologies and will bring two hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV) trucks into practical use in Germany in 2023.
In Magdeburg, a hydrogen fuel cell truck of the type Hyundai Xcient is expected to be on the road for Dachser starting in early 2023. The vehicle, with a permissible total weight of 27 tons and 18 pallet spaces, has a range of up to 400 kilometers, allowing it to be used in a two-shift operation. The truck will be driven by a professional driver and a professional driver who will complete their training at Dachser this year. While the FCEV truck will be tested during the day in regional distribution traffic in the Magdeburg area, the emission-free vehicle will operate at night in the system traffic to the Dachser branch in Berlin-Schönefeld. In night operations, the emission-free vehicle will be operated with a tandem swap body trailer. Suitable hydrogen refueling options will be available near the two Dachser branches in Magdeburg and Berlin by the time the vehicle is delivered.
Contract Partner H2 Delivery Truck Pool
Dachser’s contract partner is H2 Delivery Truck Pool GmbH & Co. KG in Magdeburg. The sales company belongs to H2 Green Power & Logistics GmbH, which presented hydrogen-powered commercial vehicle logistics with the Hyundai Xcient FCEV truck during its roadshow through eleven German cities at the end of 2021.
Emission-Free in Hamburg
In Hamburg, Dachser will use a Bluepower 1938 FCEV truck from the Bremen company Enginius – a subsidiary of the Faun Group – for downtown deliveries starting in mid-2023. The truck will complement the locally emission-free delivery concept DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery, which is already set to launch in Hamburg in autumn 2022. The Bluepower 1938 has a permissible total weight of 19 tons and can transport up to 18 pallets of goods with its fixed box body. The estimated range of 250 kilometers plus reserve is ideal for downtown deliveries and offers a very high recuperation potential. The hydrogen filling station in Hamburg’s Hafen City is planned for refueling.
Study with Kempten University
“As part of a study with Kempten University, we have already identified the considerable potential of hydrogen trucks in Dachser’s European piece goods network,” explains Stefan Hohm, Chief Development Officer (CDO) and member of the board at Dachser. “With the first two hydrogen trucks in the Dachser network, we will be able to gather valuable practical experience, which we look forward to.”
