BGL against Night Driving Ban on the Inntal Autobahn in Tyrol
2. August 2022The European rail logistics company DB Cargo AG signed the Letter of Intent for collaboration with Smart City Loop GmbH on July 27, 2022. The logistics concept of Smart City Loop is tailored to urban centers. This will enable palletized goods to be transported underground to cities in an automated manner, and on the return journey, for example, empty containers and recyclable materials.
(Mainz/Köln/Hamburg) A feasibility study conducted in Hamburg concluded that the underground transport solution is technically and economically viable. Moreover, it would make a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions and the traffic burden in the city. The backbone of the concept consists of underground pipe systems. Preparations for the approval process for their construction are currently underway. Following the planning approval, the ambitious schedule aims for commissioning by early 2026, according to the plan of the start-up company Smart City Loop.
Regular Professional Exchange
DB Cargo supports the implementation of the project in Hamburg with existing technical expertise and regular professional exchange. In the future, rail freight transport is to be expanded with the intelligent, environmentally friendly transport and goods transport systems from Smart City Loop. The goal: environmentally friendly goods transport in urban areas. In collaboration with DB Cargo, the concept will be examined regarding various options for rail connections and further developed if necessary.
