9. August 2022The Frankfurt branch of Rhenus Air & Ocean has been certified according to Good Distribution Practice (GDP). This certification enables the air and sea freight specialist to meet the EU guidelines for the “good distribution practice of human medicines.” The certification is essential for the global positioning of Rhenus Air & Ocean in the Life Sciences & Healthcare sector.
(Holzwickede/Frankfurt) The key to obtaining the certification was the implementation of a quality management system in accordance with GDP guidelines at the Frankfurt branch and the comprehensive documentation of all processes along the supply chain. This allowed Rhenus Air & Ocean to demonstrate that the supply chain for human medicines is fully controlled and that the efficacy of the medications is ensured through transport and storage. This creates the prerequisite for the company to operate as a logistics service provider in the pharmaceutical sector. The selection and qualification of all partners according to GDP guidelines by Rhenus Air & Ocean is also essential. “For all companies operating in the healthcare sector, patient welfare comes first. Therefore, we set the highest quality standards and measure all our processes against them,” explains Tristan Stechmann, Head of Life Sciences & Healthcare Germany at Rhenus Air & Ocean.
Frankfurt Airport Location as Competence Center
Rhenus Air & Ocean offers industry-specific solutions for air, sea, and road transport to customers in the Life Sciences & Healthcare sectors. The location at Frankfurt Airport serves as a competence center, thus providing Rhenus Air & Ocean access to the important German market for the Life Sciences & Healthcare industry. The GDP certification is also an important milestone for the global development of this industry vertical. The now certified quality management system serves as the basis for the global standard in the GDP network of Rhenus Air & Ocean. “We are pursuing a clear plan to establish a fully GDP-certified global Life Sciences & Healthcare network. With globally uniform standards and solutions, we aim to set benchmarks in service and quality,” says Stephan Dülk, Global Head of Life Sciences & Healthcare at Rhenus Air & Ocean.
