22. August 2022DHL Parcel is adjusting prices for its business customers starting January 1, 2023. The pricing measure includes a significant increase in the base price and introduces two new surcharges. From 2023, a variable energy surcharge and a peak surcharge during times of particularly high package volumes will be implemented, as is already common in the market.
(Bonn) To safeguard against fluctuations in energy costs, DHL Parcel will introduce an indexed energy surcharge on the base price of various products starting January 1, 2023. The amount of the surcharge will be determined monthly in a transparent and understandable manner based on the price development of diesel, gas, and electricity. The three components will be weighted based on the energy mix of an average shipment. A peak surcharge of 0.19 euros per shipment will be charged by DHL Parcel starting next year, specifically during the peak season of 2023, exclusively in the months of November and December. Reasons for this include high necessary investments in its own infrastructure, significant personnel expenses, and higher purchase prices—especially around Christmas. The price increase also includes an adjustment of the toll and CO2 surcharge, which will increase by 0.01 euros per shipment due to rising toll rates and higher CO2 prices per ton. “We take our commitment to being a reliable partner for our customers very seriously; therefore, despite massive cost increases, we have not made any mid-year price adjustments so far. However, these are now unavoidable. We all perceive the changing costs. Therefore, due to the volatile and strongly externally driven market development, as well as necessary investments in our network, we will introduce new surcharges,” says Ole Nordhoff, Marketing Director at Post & Paket Deutschland of Deutsche Post DHL Group. The increases apply to DHL parcel shipping for business customers and do not affect the national and international DHL Express business. Business customers will be individually informed about the changes. Prices for DHL parcel shipping by private customers remain unchanged. Photo: © Deutsche Post DHL
