Swiss Post stays on course in a challenging environment
23. August 2022SW-Paratus, known for its pallet exchange concept, presents the new plastic pallet in Euro format at FACHPACK, identical in design to the wooden Euro pallet. While low prices have previously been the main reason for choosing wooden pallets, the high acquisition costs, which have risen to three times the previous price, are now a significant challenge.
(Halle/Westfalen) Rapidly rising prices for traditional wooden Euro pallets have shifted the focus to finding an attractive alternative. Therefore, SW-Paratus, known for its concept of the fastest pallet exchange, presents a unique Euro plastic pallet at FACHPACK: High circulation times, large load capacity, hygienic advantages, and especially the identical design to the wooden Euro pallet favor the plastic load carrier as the ultimate solution for intralogistics.
Plastic versus wooden pallets, which is better? Since the world’s first one-piece plastic pallet was patented and introduced to the market in 1967, the pros and cons have been hotly debated. A clear winner cannot be determined, as whether a logistics company chooses one material or the other ultimately depends on the properties required of the pallet in use. While low prices have previously been the main reason for choosing wooden pallets, the high acquisition costs are now a significant challenge.
Switch from wood to Euro plastic now
“Don’t wait any longer and switch in-house pallets now!” advise Lars Wellerdiek and Ralf Schauties, management of SW-Paratus. “Plastic pallets have previously been considered too expensive. However, since the beginning of 2020, the price index for solid wood for wooden pallets has nearly quadrupled. The higher the purchasing prices for the wood materials used rise, the faster the plastic pallet becomes economically viable: Thanks to many advantages such as higher circulation times, longer lifespan, highest stability, and load capacity, a plastic pallet quickly pays for itself.”
Ultimate Euro plastic pallet newly in the range
Due to the tense situation in the wood market, the specialists for pallet handling and logistics solutions from Halle (Westfalen) have introduced a special version of the flat plastic pallet into their range: The Euro plastic pallet is identical in construction, design, and format to the classic wooden Euro pallet. However, compared to its predecessor, it features smooth runners and feet, and anti-slip inserts on the flat deck provide additional support for the load. “Light and germ-free to clean, the Euro plastic pallet meets hygiene and cleanroom conditions, is water-repellent, and resistant to a variety of liquids or contamination,” praises Ralf Schauties the universal properties. “From our perspective, the ultimate solution for numerous applications!”

Designed for the fastest pallet exchanges
Because the plastic pallet in Euro format is identical in design and also has enormous load capacity, it runs easily on roller tracks and is recognized by the controls of automated conveyor systems. “The time of protruding nails and splinters is over,” enthuses Lars Wellerdiek, not only about the high-quality design but especially about the possibility of using the extremely robust and maintenance-free Euro plastic pallet in the PSV-ULTRA. In the patented pallet sliding device, loaded starting pallets can be repalletized to the desired target pallets in seconds. The switch can occur from wood, one-way, aluminum, or metal to plastic and vice versa. The operation requires only a forklift, needs no additional drive, and can be easily performed by one person. “The Euro plastic pallet is an ideal building block for our solution concept and enables safe, fast, and cost-effective changes of pallets for shipping and intralogistics, as they are commonplace in logistics or trading companies.”
Presentation at FACHPACK
SW-Paratus will be represented at the European Trade Fair for Packaging, Technology, and Processes at the end of September with its own stand. “With the fastest pallet exchange in the PSV-ULTRA, the hygienic Euro plastic pallet, and our pallet stacking station PSS, we present our extremely efficient and cost-minimizing overall concept for repalletizing and pallet exchange for shipping and intralogistics to the professional audience,” invite Lars Wellerdiek and Ralf Schauties to visit and exchange ideas at FACHPACK. Also at the stand is the Flexabox®, the multi-flexible and reusable shipping packaging that grows as its contents demand.
