Smart Container Loop Develops New Reusable Container System
Sep 5, 2022 at 7:45 PMOn September 1, the two companies Roman Mayer and trans-o-flex celebrated a rare anniversary: For 50 years, the freight forwarder from Gersthofen near Augsburg has been working for the express service from Weinheim on the Bergstraße, which specializes in pharmaceuticals and other sensitive goods. And what is even rarer: The entrepreneur Roman Mayer, who has accompanied and shaped the collaboration over all five decades, was able to personally reflect on the partnership during a celebration for the anniversary.
(Weinheim) “We drove the first tour for trans-o-flex on September 1, 1972,” recalls the now 73-year-old Mayer. “Since then, the collaboration has grown continuously. By the end of 1976, 12 of our vehicles were already in operation for trans-o-flex in Bavaria. By 1984, there were around 20.” He counts the time of German reunification among the highlights of the collaboration. “At that time, the volumes suddenly increased rapidly, and we sometimes deployed 16 additional routes in one afternoon.”
The conclusion from 50 years of collaboration with trans-o-flex for Mayer is: “I wouldn’t want to miss these exciting decades. If I received a call today like in 1972, I would act just as I did back then and take the path with trans-o-flex again.”
Mayer’s freight forwarding company is now part of the Roman Mayer Logistics Group, which consists of 19 companies, is represented at 29 locations worldwide, and employs more than 1,400 people. The group has around 130,000 m² of logistics space with 100,000 pallet spaces in high-bay warehouses and operates almost 400 of its own trucks. About 60 of them are regularly in service for trans-o-flex in scheduled traffic.
“Such a long and fruitful collaboration, which has proven to be strong and resilient even in the changing circumstances of history, is not often found,” said trans-o-flex CEO Wolfgang P. Albeck as he presented Mayer with a glass trophy for the anniversary. “Both companies have developed very positively in this partnership and can be proud of it. In light of our shared success, I am very confident that the collaboration will continue to thrive in the coming decades.”
