15. September 2022The Geis Group today ceremoniously inaugurated the second building of its logistics and technology center in Gochsheim near Schweinfurt. Geis invested around 18 million euros in the new building, which covers an area of 20,000 square meters. More than 200 new jobs have already been created on site. This number is expected to rise significantly in the future, as Geis is already planning another logistics building in Gochsheim.
(Gochsheim/Nuremberg/Bad Neustadt) At today’s official inauguration ceremony, the Geis Group welcomed around 230 guests. Among the honored guests were Florian Töpper, District Administrator of the Schweinfurt district, Manuel Kneuer, Mayor of Gochsheim, Prof. Dr. Robert Grebner, President of the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt, and Alexander C. Schmidt, CEO of the Kneipp Group, who addressed the guests with greetings.
Conveniently Located
During the subsequent tour, guests were able to get an impression of the generous dimensions of the facility. With an area of 20,000 square meters and a clear interior height of 10.50 meters, the new building offers space for around 25,000 Euro pallet spaces. Additionally, the property houses two specially equipped hazardous goods areas. Goods can be received and distributed at over 20 loading gates and two ground-level access gates.
Another significant advantage is the location of the terminal: it is situated on a ten-hectare plot at the industrial site of Schweinfurt and is conveniently located near the A70, A71, A3, and A7 motorways. Furthermore, the new building was constructed directly next to the first logistics facility, which was put into operation in 2018, and in close proximity to the existing Geis transshipment terminal. This allows the Geis Group to respond highly flexibly to seasonal fluctuations in terms of personnel, technology, and space, while also feeding piece goods shipments, partial loads, and full loads directly from the warehouse into its international network.
Additionally, sustainability is particularly important to the Geis Group. Among many other green features, the property is pre-equipped for the installation of a photovoltaic system on the roof, is equipped with energy-saving LED lighting, and has rainwater drainage in nature-friendly retention basins.
Traditional Company Kneipp as a Customer
More than 200 specialists from Geis Transport and Logistics GmbH are currently employed at the logistics centers in Gochsheim. In the new building, Geis is primarily working for the Kneipp Group. For the manufacturer of body care and cosmetic products as well as dietary supplements and herbal medicines, the new facility will be the future hub of all logistics processes.
Geis is responsible for shuttle transports from the Kneipp plant in Ochsenfurt-Hohestadt, incoming goods processing, storage and order picking, creating freight documents, shipping processing, and freight forwarding services. Value-added services such as customs management, returns handling, and display construction are also part of the service portfolio. “With state-of-the-art warehouse management and a strong team, we find in Geis a partner on equal footing: open to the world but rooted in the location, growth-oriented but always grounded,” said Alexander C. Schmidt, CEO of the Kneipp Group, in his thank-you speech at the inauguration ceremony today.
As an innovative logistics service provider, Geis also implements technical innovations in this facility. For example, employees pick orders using smartphones in conjunction with glove scanners. A fully automated conveyor system with ten picking stations ensures maximum efficiency in picking and packing online orders.
Additional Opportunities for Existing and New Customers
It is planned that Geis will initially process more than 120,000 orders per year for the Kneipp Group in the new logistics center – with an upward trend. The Kneipp company is currently active in 18 countries, including markets in Europe, North America, and Asia. “We support our customers as best as possible in their growth plans,” says Dr. Johannes Söllner, Managing Director of Geis Holding for the Logistics Services sector. “At the same time, we are open to new customers and projects. A third building section with 25,000 square meters of logistics space is already firmly planned right next to the two logistics centers.”
After its completion, Geis will have three logistics terminals in Gochsheim with a total area of 60,000 square meters and a transshipment terminal. “We are developing the Gochsheim site into an important center of our corporate group,” explain the managing partners Hans-Georg Geis and Wolfgang Geis. “Already, over 500 employees in the Schweinfurt region are working for our customers. With the planned facility, our usual reliability and quality, we want to open up additional opportunities for existing and new customers.”
