September 2022The shipping company Hapag-Lloyd is taking advantage of the ongoing boom in the shipping business and is acquiring a 49 percent stake in the Italian intermodal specialist and terminal operator Spinelli Group based in Genoa. This also secures Hapag-Lloyd access to terminals in the south. The Spinelli Group is well positioned in northern Italy.
(Hamburg/Genoa) Hapag-Lloyd and the Spinelli Group have today reached an agreement to join forces. The German container shipping company will acquire a 49 percent stake in the Spinelli Group, a leading Italian logistics group, from the existing shareholders, while the Spinelli family will retain the majority stake of 51 percent. The parties have agreed to keep the financial details of the transaction confidential. The completion of the transaction is subject to approval by the relevant antitrust authorities, which is expected in the coming months.
Presence in port terminals and intermodal centers
Since 1963, the Spinelli Group, headquartered in Genoa, has been established in logistics, thanks to its extensive and far-reaching presence in national port terminals and intermodal centers. Additional Spinelli centers are located in Livorno, Padua, La Spezia, Dinazzano (Reggio Emilia), and Milan.
The group’s business areas offer integrated services that meet the requirements of the entire logistics chain: port terminals, intermodal transport, trucking, warehousing, storage space, repair, container sales, and customs clearance. The group has approximately 700 employees and continuously renews its commitment to support the local community and national systems.
