Austrian Post Opens New Logistics Center in Tyrol
25. September 2022The global logistics service provider DB Schenker has moved into a new, sustainable cross-dock terminal in the greater Ulm area at the location of Herbrechtingen. In this economic region, DB Schenker serves numerous customers, particularly from the food industry, construction materials industry, and mechanical engineering. At the same time, Ulm is an important hub in DB Schenker’s powerful European land transport network.
(Frankfurt/Herbrechtingen) The new terminal, located in close proximity to the A7 motorway as an important north-south connection and to the A8 connecting Stuttgart and Munich, went into operation at the end of June 2022. On a property area of 40,000 m2, DB Schenker now has 7,000 m2 of logistics space for handling and 74 truck ramps in Herbrechtingen. On September 23, the successful move was celebrated with employees, customers, and representatives of local politics at the site.
“With our current locations in Germany and Europe, we have achieved a very good density of our land transport network,” says Ralf Többe, Head of Land Transport at DB Schenker in the Germany/Switzerland cluster. “Through modernizations, expansions of branches, and new constructions like here in Herbrechtingen, we are increasing our capacities and performance within this network and preparing ourselves for further growth in Europe.”
Iris Steiner, head of the land office at the Herbrechtingen location, adds: “By doubling the terminal area to 7,000 m2, we have optimized our loading and unloading processes. This ensures particularly fast and punctual handling and simultaneously creates better conditions for employees and, of course, our drivers. After just a few weeks of operation in the new terminal, we were able to achieve a significant increase in throughput. We are well prepared for upcoming new customer business.”
Sustainably Powerful for Customers, Employees, and Drivers
With the move of the Ulm land transport office to the new multifunctional cross-dock terminal in Herbrechtingen, the best conditions for further growth are being created. Great emphasis was placed on sustainability in the new construction. The new terminal is certified according to DGNB Gold. The photovoltaic system is currently in planning. Several e-charging stations are available for both e-transporters and employees’ vehicles. Social sustainability is particularly evident in the design of the infrastructure for employees. With 2,000 m2 of office and social space, as well as around 15,200 m2 of paved outdoor areas and spacious social rooms, the location also makes for an inviting and comfortable base for drivers. The site employs 100 staff.
