Of this, 14.4 million tons were handled in the overseas port; a slight increase compared to the record result of the first half of 2021. According to the Port and Seamen’s Office, about 600,000 tons were loaded in other Rostock port facilities such as the Yara chemical port as well as the cargo and fishing port.
(Rostock) The cargo volumes in the entire Rostock port area remained roughly at the record level of 15.2 million tons from the previous half-year. The number of ferry passengers traveling to and from Northern Europe reached 953,000, returning to pre-Corona levels.
“All Rostock port companies and authorities, especially the shipping companies, handling companies, freight forwarders, and railway companies operating here, have worked together to ensure that the record handling result of the previous half-year could be confirmed despite the obstacles posed by war and Corona,” says Dr. Gernot Tesch, Managing Director of ROSTOCK PORT.
The cargo handling in the overseas port of Rostock reached the previous year’s figure of 14.4 million tons in the first six months of 2022.
Share of Ferry and RoRo Cargo at 63 Percent
From January to June 2022, 9.1 million tons of rolling cargo were handled at the ferry and RoRo terminal, the same as in the previous half-year. The share of ferry and RoRo cargo in the total handling at the universal port of Rostock was 63 percent. The handling of bulk and general cargo reached 5.3 million tons, accounting for 37 percent.
The Rostock overseas port recorded 3,709 calls (2021: 3,616) from ferry, RoRo, cargo, and cruise ships in the first six months of the year, including 2,921 calls (2021: 2,801) from ferry and RoRo ships.
