9. October 2022Groundbreaking in the presence of the Mayor of the State Capital Stuttgart, Dr. Frank Nopper: On an area of around 21,000 square meters, Daimler Truck is constructing a new commercial vehicle center for trucks of the Mercedes-Benz and FUSO brands, as well as buses of the Mercedes-Benz and Setra brands in Stuttgart-Feuerbach.
(Stuttgart) In Stuttgart-Feuerbach, services, repair and maintenance services, as well as vehicle and spare parts sales will be offered in the future. The location will also serve as a rental hub for CharterWay vehicles. Completion is planned for the end of next year.
Dr. Volker Hüntrup, Head of Own Retail Trucks Europe: “With the new construction, Daimler Truck is strategically investing in the further development of its proprietary sales network. Another new commercial vehicle center is currently being established in Haan near Wuppertal. Operations there are expected to commence in the first half of 2023. Plans for a new building in Aschheim near Munich are already well advanced.”
Andreas Schmid, Head of Sales Division South at Mercedes-Benz Trucks: “Consistent customer orientation is crucial for our success. Therefore, I am already looking forward to the opening of our new commercial vehicle center in Stuttgart, which will be designed according to the latest standards and will cover all important services related to heavy commercial vehicles – trucks and buses – at one location.”
Dr. Frank Nopper, Mayor of the State Capital Stuttgart: “With its new commercial vehicle center, Daimler Truck is laying the foundation for greater environmental and climate friendliness in Stuttgart. The new and enhanced service offering will lead to increased demand and thus a higher share of fully electrified commercial vehicles. This brings Stuttgart closer to its goal of not only being the automotive capital but also becoming the mobility capital.”
Here are the details of the new center
On the property on Wernerstraße in Stuttgart-Feuerbach, one- to two-story buildings with a gross floor area of approximately 4,600 square meters will be constructed in the coming months. A photovoltaic system is planned for the energy supply of the location, which will take over a large part of the energy supply in the future. In combination with heating the buildings via heat pumps, the construction project will achieve the BEG-40 standard for efficient buildings, meaning it will require a maximum of 40 percent of the maximum energy demand specified by the Building Energy Act. The design of workplaces and processes in both the administrative area and in the workshop and warehouse will be based on the latest standards; where possible, workflows will be digitized. Around 60 employees will work at the commercial vehicle center in the future.
Future considerations are taken into account
When constructing the new center, future considerations are integrated: For example, high-voltage workplaces are being created in Feuerbach to service battery-electric models such as the Mercedes-Benz trucks eActros and eEconic, as well as the FUSO eCanter. Additionally, a state-of-the-art workplace is planned for working on the roofs of buses. This so-called roof workplace is particularly relevant for the electric city bus Mercedes-Benz eCitaro, as it carries its batteries on the roof. Of course, sufficient electric charging spaces are also planned at the location – for employee cars as well as for trucks and buses in service. The CharterWay rental vehicles must also be handed over with fully charged batteries. The high-voltage qualifications of the respective employees are already being conducted today.
The property is excellently connected
The property in the north of Stuttgart is excellently suited for the new location. There is good transport connectivity to both the A81, Zuffenhausen junction, and the B10 tangent between Stuttgart Zuffenhausen and Esslingen. The same applies to the distribution traffic towards the city center.
Daimler Truck Own Retail is taking another step towards modernization and expansion of the sales and service network in Germany with the new building in the industrial area on Wernerstraße in Stuttgart-Feuerbach. This also includes the consistent service-side preparation for CO₂-neutral transport by commercial vehicles powered by battery and fuel cell technology.
