Swiss Post Named Best Post in the World for the Sixth Consecutive Time
9. October 2022Nexxiot has received a new major order: Over the next five years, the TradeTech pioneer will equip more than 600,000 shipping containers with its IoT sensor devices on behalf of NTT DATA. Nexxiot’s Cargo Monitor enables real-time monitoring of transport containers. Thanks to this live data, the existing SAP application Connected Product is supplied with real-time information.
(Zurich) This supports NTT DATA in managing insurance during times of strained intercontinental supply chains. Under the label “Preferred IoT Solution Provider,” the partnership between NTT DATA and Nexxiot has been established for this project.
The loss of goods and damage to products due to challenging transport conditions are among the risks of global supply chain management. Often, it is then no longer possible to trace where and why the damage occurred. “By combining real-time monitoring with automated freight insurance payments, we leverage the advantages of the TradeTech revolution for these situations. The digitization of freight transport creates improved visibility and transparency for all parties involved. What additional value creation the Internet of Things technology can generate in the future is, in part, still unforeseeable today,” says Stefan Kalmund, CEO of Nexxiot, looking beyond the current agreement.
Seamless real-time monitoring
NTT DATA, a globally operating IT service provider, addresses this challenge with a tool from the SAP forge. Connected Product was developed from the SAP Business Network for Logistics. This application is connected with IoT devices to monitor the flow of goods. The Nexxiot Cargo Monitor provides seamless real-time monitoring of transport conditions for this task. The shipment data collected through live tracking can be configured via Connected Product so that, for example, insurance policies are automatically triggered whenever goods are transported under conditions that deviate from the predefined criteria.
Goal: Digitally connected value chains
“Our shared vision is to create a new era of digitally connected supply or rather value chains,” emphasizes Xavier Rovira, Global Head of the SAP Unit at NTT DATA. “Nexxiot’s Cargo Monitors are a crucial element of our efforts to create more transparency. With the data we gain, we want to better assess disputes over transport damages on one hand and learn how to set up future supply chains more efficiently and sustainably on the other.”
