The Logistics Industry Strengthens IT Security Measures
19. October 2022Rhenus is making its global FCL (Full Container Load) transport 100 percent climate-neutral by 2045. The company is implementing the next point of its sustainability agenda. Recently, Rhenus committed to CO2-neutrality for its LCL (Less Than Container Load) transports.
(Holzwickede) Zero emissions for all global FCL services: This is the goal that the Rhenus Group is pursuing by 2045. The logistics service provider is continuously working on sustainable transport options. For example, the company is developing a tool that transparently displays the entire CO2 footprint of global air and sea transports. Rhenus is also researching alternative biofuels to reduce emissions.
In 2021, the company committed to making its LCL transports climate-neutral by 2030. Shortly thereafter, Rhenus achieved its first milestone on this path with the launch of a pilot project: All shipments from Hilden in North Rhine-Westphalia have been climate-neutral since this year. This is documented by a Carbon-Neutral certificate from Climate Partner for all export shipments processed in the first quarter of 2022.
“Rhenus is committed to driving the logistics industry’s transformation towards a more sustainable industry. We are constantly looking for ways to promote and advance the development of more environmentally friendly and sustainable alternatives for sea freight transport,” said Jan Harnisch, CEO Global at Rhenus Air & Ocean. Rhenus is initially focusing on the Asian inland market, as it is one of the fastest-growing trade routes in the world. Gradually, all initiatives will be expanded to all other global routes. The new FCL initiative completes Rhenus Ocean Freight’s overall strategy regarding CO2-neutrality and will soon offer Rhenus customers a more sustainable logistics solution.
