Nov 9, 2022 at 3:44 PMIn light of the decision regarding the Fifth Act to Amend the Federal Toll Act, which has once again been removed from the agenda of the Bundestag’s Transport Committee – meaning that the planned increase in the truck toll by the federal government can no longer be implemented on January 1, 2023, the Federal Association of Goods Transport, Logistics and Waste Management (BGL) e.V. is now demanding clarity.
(Berlin) BGL spokesperson Prof. Dr. Dirk Engelhardt: “Now it is official – there will be no additional burdens for the medium-sized transport industry due to an increase in the truck toll as of January 1! This shows that the loud appeal of the BGL has had an impact during the public hearing. This is initially good news amidst the economic crisis. However, planning security has still not been achieved!
Comprehensive Reform Demanded for 2024
The industry now needs clarity that there will be no toll increase in 2023 as part of a burden moratorium, and instead, a comprehensive toll reform will be initiated for 2024. This includes extending the truck toll to vehicles over 3.5 tons, a CO2 toll that is based on the market readiness and actual availability of trucks with alternative drives, as well as the promised regulation in the coalition agreement to avoid double charging of the CO2 price through the diesel price and additionally again through the truck toll.
