GREIWING Celebrates Groundbreaking for New Logistics Center in Wesel
13. January 2023Formula E and DHL, founding partner of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, announce the extension of their multi-year partnership with the start of the Gen3 era to continue highlighting the importance of sustainability through motorsport racing in cities around the world.
(Bonn) DHL is not only the official founding partner but has also been the official logistics partner of the world’s first fully electric racing series since 2014. With 40 years of experience in international motorsport, DHL has been instrumental in implementing the concept of purely electric motorsport, which was realized with the first race in Beijing. Since then, DHL has supported Formula E at all 100 races that have taken place, the last of which was in the 8th season in Seoul, South Korea, the 26th city to host a Formula E race.
Season 9 and thus the Gen3 era begins this Saturday with the Hankook Mexico City E-Prix 2023. The race will mark the competitive debut of Gen3 – the fastest, lightest, most powerful, and efficient electric racing car ever built. Overall, Season 9 includes 16 races in 11 iconic cities around the world, including Hyderabad, India; Cape Town, South Africa; São Paulo, Brazil; and Portland, Oregon for the first time.
Sustainable Logistics Services
The partnership with DHL provides Formula E with state-of-the-art, sustainable logistics services with tailored multimodal transport solutions by land and sea, ensuring maximum efficiency and minimal CO2 emissions. Utilizing biofuels on the road and at sea, DHL will cover over 89,000 kilometers in the upcoming season and transport around 415 tons of valuable cargo for each race, including racing cars, batteries, charging units, transmission equipment, as well as marketing and hospitality equipment.

“DHL has helped bring Formula E to life and has been a valued partner ever since,” says Matt Scammell, Chief Commercial Officer of Formula E. “We are excited that the relationship continues as we enter the Gen3 era, where we will drive innovation further, push the boundaries of EV technology development, and define the future of motorsport. DHL plays a crucial role in executing each and every race around the world and is pioneering efficiency and sustainability – making DHL a perfect fit for the championship and our mission.”
Communication via the “Together-Green” Platform
DHL and Formula E will continue to communicate their shared values through the “Together Green” platform. The yellow color of DHL and the blue color of Formula E combine to create a vision for a greener future. Activities include collaboration on sustainability projects at new and old racetracks while simultaneously showcasing the excitement of Formula E.
“We share the vision of a greener future and are proud to be the founding and logistics partner of Formula E since its inception,” says Arjan Sissing, Head of Global Brand Marketing at Deutsche Post DHL Group. “We look back on an exciting partnership where we have jointly committed to sustainability worldwide. We look forward to continuing this green journey together.”
CO2 Efficiency Target Since 2008
As a pioneer in green logistics, DHL committed itself in 2008 as the first logistics company to a measurable CO2 efficiency target, pledging to improve CO2 efficiency by 30 percent between 2007 and 2021. Since this target was achieved in 2016, four years ahead of schedule, the company announced in March 2017 that it aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. In this context, DPDHL Group promised to invest seven billion euros in environmentally friendly operations and climate-neutral logistics by 2030. The funds will be used, for example, to convert 60 percent of last-mile delivery vehicles to electric drives by 2030, which will grow Deutsche Post DHL Group’s electric fleet to over 80,000 vehicles.
