24. January 2023The Gateway Basel Nord is a trimodal large terminal for Switzerland. With the start of construction, the Gateway Basel Nord AG will transition from a planning to an operating company. Accordingly, the shareholding will be evenly distributed in thirds among the three Swiss logistics and transport companies Contargo, Hupac, and SBB Cargo.
(Basel) Gateway Basel Nord, the trimodal transshipment terminal in Basel, is set to connect freight transport between rail, road, and water in the future. The pioneering project for Switzerland was established in 2015 as a pure planning company of the three Swiss logistics and transport companies Contargo, Hupac, and SBB Cargo. Now, the shareholding has been evenly divided into thirds among Contargo, Hupac, and SBB Cargo. The presidency of the board of directors rotates annually among the shareholders.The planning approval from the Federal Office of Transport is expected for Gateway Basel Nord AG this year.Holger Bochow, chairman of the board of directors of Gateway Basel Nord AG, emphasizes the importance of the even distribution of ownership: “Our three partners Hupac, SBB Cargo, and Contargo bring their specific expertise to the table. Therefore, joint control is crucial for the success of the century project Gateway Basel Nord.”

Through the collaboration of SBB Cargo, the specialist in Swiss rail freight transport, Hupac, the largest European combined operator, and Contargo, the expert in shipping and empty container management, an optimal synergy for the realization of Gateway Basel Nord is created.
