Geopolitical Situation Influences the Results of the Port of Hamburg
21. February 2023The new federal coordinator for maritime economy and tourism, Dieter Janecek, was informed today during a port tour with Reinhard Meyer, Minister of Economics of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, State Secretary for Economics Jochen Schulte, and the management of the port operator ROSTOCK PORT about the current developments in the largest German universal port on the Baltic Sea.
(Rostock) In addition to the ongoing deepening of the shipping channel to 16.50 meters and the associated prospects, topics such as the expansion of offshore wind energy and the resulting opportunities for local value creation at the port-based industrial companies EEW Special Pipe Constructions and Liebherr were discussed.
Another focus of the discussions was the transformation of the Rostock energy port from a fossil-based to a climate-neutral, hydrogen-based energy generation and supply location for East Germany.
The Rostock energy port is already a transshipment point for the components of the energy transition and plans to produce and import green energy carriers at the site by 2027.
