26. February 2023At the Austrian State Prize PR, the communications team of the logistics company Gebrüder Weiss wins in the category “Product and Service PR.” Gebrüder Weiss on Mars? Not just yet. But to make humanity’s dream of a manned Mars expedition possible one day, the logistics company is at least supporting the scientists of the Austrian Space Forum in their maneuvers on Earth.
(Lauterach/Vienna) The aim of these missions is to simulate the conditions on the Red Planet as closely as possible and to prepare humans and equipment for these demanding challenges.
The last action of this kind took place a year ago in the Israeli Negev Desert and was not only a significant gain for the scientists. The communication experts from Gebrüder Weiss, who vividly showcased the mission, have now been awarded the Austrian State Prize PR in the category of Product and Service PR for their outstanding communication.
The prestigious award was presented on Wednesday evening, February 22, in Vienna by Minister of Economic Affairs Martin Kocher. Frank Haas and Vanessa Hafner from Gebrüder Weiss accepted the award: “As the most experienced logistics company in the world, Gebrüder Weiss is committed to the future of mobility. We want to help science find new ways. We achieve this not only through logistics but also through communication,” said Frank Haas, who is responsible for international communication and marketing at the logistics company.
Global Communication Offensive
Gebrüder Weiss accompanied the scientific mission with continuous reporting across all communication channels. In the company magazine ATLAS, there was a special Mars edition that also included an extensive interview with the head of the ÖWF, Gernot Grömer. Under the hashtag #marsmonday, especially the apprentices from Gebrüder Weiss, who logistically implemented the project, reported on their experiences. In addition, a dedicated documentary film about the mission was created. The international media response to Gebrüder Weiss’s engagement was also high. Frank Haas: “Supporting a Mars mission is a topic of high global relevance. Therefore, we had press reports in nearly all Gebrüder Weiss markets. The Chinese and American media were also very interested in the action.”
By the way, a kind of “space competence cluster” has formed at Gebrüder Weiss from the Mars action. The Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) based in Stockholm now also relies on the logistics expertise of the orange logistics provider. Gebrüder Weiss also assisted the Swedish project engineers with advice and support. In addition to logistical consulting, the logistics provider also transported all the research equipment to Sweden. More about this can be found in the current online special of the ATLAS magazine.
