RailCom in Dialogue with Railway Companies
16. March 2023
BGL and TIMOCOM Establish Strategic Partnership
16. March 2023The operator of rail transport for non-craneable semi-trailers in Europe is expanding its portfolio and will now also offer transport on the first and last mile by road. The concept serves as an addition to CargoBeamer’s regular train connections and is aimed at customers who want to transport their semi-trailers not only over long distances by rail but also by road to the start/destination. The service will be launched in the second quarter of 2023.
An integrated solution for short-distance transport facilitates the transition from road transport to combined transport for both existing and new customers. Additionally, it allows transport companies to deploy their truck drivers much more efficiently, thus addressing the rapidly increasing driver shortage in Europe. The first and last mile concept will be offered by CargoBeamer in the following markets: Northern Italy, Western Germany & Benelux, Northern France, Southern France & Northeastern Spain, as well as in large parts of Great Britain and Ireland. This will connect all terminals in CargoBeamer’s network with third-party locations, logistics facilities, and Ro-Ro ports in the region.
Enabling Combined Transport for All Transport Companies
Initial test runs have already been successfully conducted on the route Kaldenkirchen Domodossola, with the transport of semi-trailers extended in both directions to the port of Genoa. Booking of the new service will be done through CargoBeamer’s integrated online portal “eLogistics.” Customers can choose between individual transports and a round-trip model. All emissions from road transport on the first and last mile will also be calculated through CargoBeamer’s climate neutrality program and compensated in the form of gold standard certificates.
Boris Timm, Chief Operating Officer of CargoBeamer, says: “CargoBeamer has always aimed to make combined transport more accessible for freight forwarders and logistics providers. By adding the solution for short-distance transport, we are lowering another crucial barrier that has previously hindered especially small and medium-sized transport companies from switching to rail. The offer to integrate the first and last mile for nearly all types of semi-trailers significantly reduces the costs of organizing intermodal transport for our customers and will allow many new operators without combined transport experience to utilize CargoBeamer. Furthermore, customers benefit from higher efficiency in terms of transports conducted per driver and the continued fully climate-neutral service from CargoBeamer.”
