Swiss Post Opens New Parcel Center Near Basel
25. March 2023Gebrüder Weiss opened a logistics terminal in the Reutte industrial area of Kreckelmoos on March 22. The location is specifically designed to meet the needs of local businesses in Tyrol. Tours for the collection and delivery of import and export goods will thus be shorter and more flexible. They reach Reutte directly, are transshipped there, stored, and delivered on short routes, even as express shipments.
(Lauterach/Reutte) Customs clearance as well as air and sea freight services round off the portfolio of Gebrüder Weiss on-site. The logistics company has invested around eight million euros in the new building, which was completed in less than a year of construction time. The location complements the existing Gebrüder Weiss branches in Innsbruck, Wörgl, and Hall in Tyrol, as well as the Bavarian locations of Memmingen, Waldkraiburg, Passau, and Nuremberg.
Günter Schmarl, branch manager of Tyrol at Gebrüder Weiss, explains the positive effects: “We reduce trips over the heavily frequented Fernpass between Tyrol and Bavaria and relieve regional traffic by consolidating scattered storage capacities near the shippers and recipients of goods throughout the district. This is not only more efficient for all parties involved, but it also follows the sustainability and climate strategy of the state of Tyrol, which provides for regional distribution centers for the collection and delivery of goods.”

Photovoltaics Cover a Large Part of Energy Needs
In the medium term, around 30 employees are to be hired in Reutte, and apprentices will also be trained. The majority of the energy needs of the terminal is sourced from a 600 square meter photovoltaic system on the roof of the hall. The solar system saves eleven tons of CO2 annually and generates clean electricity for a heat pump that regulates the temperature of the logistics center. By 2030, Gebrüder Weiss aims to operate all its logistics facilities worldwide in a climate-neutral manner. To this end, the company increasingly relies on electricity from renewable sources.
