TX Logistik: Triangle Traffic Between Four Countries Launched
28. March 2023On the last day of the strike, uninvolved railway companies are affected, which have nothing to do with the collective bargaining dispute between EVG and Deutsche Bahn. This situation must change urgently.
(Berlin) Also, rail freight transport is at a standstill in Germany today. Ludolf Kerkeling, Chairman of the GÜTERBAHNEN, said in Berlin: “This was not necessary and must have consequences for the design of the public interest-oriented rail infrastructure company.” Kerkeling pointed out that the EVG union is primarily engaged in controversial wage negotiations with DB Cargo AG or the DB Group. This does not concern the entire rail freight transport market. About 60 percent of the usual rail freight traffic is accounted for by uninvolved companies.
Kerkeling: “DB is apparently unable to operate critical infrastructure seriously. While, for example, the Autobahn GmbH is legally enforcing the continued operation of the Hamburg Elbtunnel as part of the A7, DB Netz announced in advance on Friday that it would not accept any timetable requests for today at all. The normal case – even in industries that do not operate critical infrastructure – is an emergency plan. For that, DB could, for example, rely on civil servants.”
The EVG has also called its members in operational centers and signal boxes of the state-owned rail network to strike. Some transport companies have preemptively suspended their operations. From the perspective of the GÜTERBAHNEN, however, this is by no means a blank check for DB’s behavior: it is complicit in the de facto shutdown of non-DB traffic through passivity. Kerkeling would find it “interesting to see whether DB Netz would also completely suspend operations in the event of a strike by competitors – including for DB Cargo.”
