Institutions Demand Rapid Expansion of Combined Transport
3. April 2023Over 50 sessions in the conference program, daily new exhibitor events, and for the first time a Campus Plaza for innovation and careers. From May 9 to 12, 2023, the transport logistic in Munich proves itself as the world’s leading trade fair for the industry with the largest supporting program to date. Key topics for shippers, service providers, and technology providers are digitized and decarbonized supply chains. The opening speech will be held by trade fair director Stefan Rummel together with Federal Minister of Transport Dr. Volker Wissing.
(Munich) The supporting program of the trade fair connects business, politics, and research through expert presentations, panel discussions, and interactive formats. A high-profile conference program consolidates knowledge from over 250 speakers in more than 50 sessions. Industry and trade are represented by Svenja Engler from Zschwimmer & Schwarz, Dr. Nadine Kiratli-Schneider from supplier Schaeffler, Gerritt Höppner-Tietz from hagebau Logistik, Dörte Maltzahn from Knauf Trans, or Georg Staller from paper manufacturer UPM. On the service provider side, Uwe Brinks (DHL), Rolf Habben Jansen (Hapag Lloyd), Sven Flore (SBB), Clemens Först (Rail Cargo), Dr. Udo Lange (FedEx), Dr. Sigrid Evelyn Nikutta (DB), Simone Lode (HHLA Next), and Dr. Tilo Bobel (Maersk) are among the most prominent speakers.
Many events also at the exhibitors
In the forums focusing on sustainability, infrastructure, digitization, and supply chain solutions, the knowledge of key players and newcomers crystallizes. On Friday, a career day rounds off the program. Additionally, there is more happening at the exhibitors than ever before. The list of events already includes over 40 dates, with a rising trend. From live demos to stand parties to mini-conferences, everything is included. New in the supporting program is the Campus Plaza in Hall B2 with presentations every 30 minutes and pure networking. Admission to the conferences is possible at any time and is already included in the trade fair ticket.
Challenges of cost explosion and climate change
Resilience between cost explosion and climate change is demanded across all modes of transport for the supply chains. Shippers from the construction materials, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, mechanical engineering, consumer goods, and automotive industries are coming to Munich. They will discuss solutions in the context of social, political, and economic developments. Highlights in the conference program include the session on Tuesday “Impact of Geopolitics on the Supply Chain,” featuring international representation from the globally active shipping company Maersk, US logistics provider FedEx, and machine tool manufacturer Trumpf. On Wednesday, German logistics experts and representatives from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport will discuss the question “How can the world economy be synchronized and climate goals achieved?”
On the operational level, the conference program particularly highlights digitization and decarbonization of the supply chain as levers for sustainability. In addition to the DVZ conference marilog, air cargo Europe, as the world’s largest meeting of the air freight industry, also addresses the topic. Among the sessions, hydrogen stands out from production to transport to use in vehicles, ships, and airplanes. Among others, the German Transport Forum (DVF) invites to the economically and politically focused panel “Hydrogen and Co: Logistics for the Energy Transition.” In rail transport, high-profile speakers from SBB Cargo, DUSS, and Hellmann Worldwide Logistics discuss the reduction of the CO₂ footprint. Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs Christian Bernreiter has a home game on the topic of Brenner transit.
Four days of pure networking
Four days, four topics, one stage, pure networking. In the middle of Hall B2, the transport logistic Campus Plaza offers up to twelve short presentations per day and space for networking. Brands like VTG, M&M Militzer & Münch, or the Port of Rotterdam, as well as innovative newcomers like Neocargo for digital networking, pepper as the first digital OEM, or dronamics, the world’s first drone airline, make Stand B2.215/314 a hotspot for sustainability, alternative drives, startups, and jobs & careers. Among other things, innovations focusing on hydrogen and electromobility, connected supply chains, or recruiting skilled personnel are discussed here.
Diverse topics
Timocom offers a whole series of short presentations on road freight transport at Stand A5/302. In the area of infrastructure, the German Maritime Center (DMZ) stands out with presentations at Stand B3/405. It also offers a half-day cross-modal conference with prominent speakers from Kühne & Nagel, Airbus, and the Federal Association of Goods Transport and Logistics on the topic “Energy Transition in the Logistics Chain.” Among others, projects showcase their status, including ALICE-ZEFES (Zero Emissions flexible vehicle platforms with modular powertrains serving the long-haul Freight Eco System) with business cases for zero-emission in heavy-duty transport or the UIRR (International Union for Combined Transport) with EDICT (Enhanced Data Interoperability for Combined Transport stakeholders). Additionally, buyers from the United Nations (UN) will inform about their procurement processes.
Logistics in all its facets
“Our conference and supporting program connects trade fair visitors with hands-on information for everyday operations,” says Dr. Robert Schönberger, Head of transport logistic exhibitions, adding: “At the same time, innovations look to the future.
