Joint Venture GR Logistik Celebrates 10th Anniversary
5. April 2023BVL with White Paper on Resilience Ahead of transport logistic
13. April 2023The Seifert Logistics Group (SLG) concluded the 2022 financial year with a record revenue of over 260 million euros. Despite a challenging market environment due to the war in Ukraine, the company group was able to achieve a revenue increase of nearly 20 percent. With this growth, the number of employees has also risen: more than 3,000 employees are now working at 45 locations across Europe. The positive business development was driven by an acquisition and expansions in the transport and contract logistics sectors.
(Ulm) “The main growth driver was the logistics division and the opening of the new Seifert logistics center in Ulm North,” said Axel Frey (CEO of Seifert Logistics Group). The contract logistics sector significantly contributes to the ongoing growth of the company group with a revenue increase of more than 25 percent. The revenue growth is partly due to new contract logistics projects at several locations. Existing projects in Mannheim, Rastatt, and Kabelsketal were extended and expanded. At the location in Hambach, series production for an automotive customer started in 2022, leading to an increase in the workforce by 300 employees. Three new locations were opened for yard management and warehouse management for a customer in the metal processing industry. In addition to the automotive industry, SLG is also strengthening its position in the construction materials and chemical industries.
The transport sector faced significant challenges in 2022 due to the war in Ukraine, the associated diesel price issues, and a shortage of drivers. Through good working conditions, fair compensation, and appealing training, SLG is countering the shortage of skilled workers and was able to grow by about 17 percent in the forwarding sector in 2022. The growth was driven by the acquisition of BTL Spedition GmbH, strategic new projects for a construction materials dealer, and an expansion of existing transport relations in the automotive and chemical sectors. On average, SLG handled 1,500 transports daily last year.
Logistics Center in Ulm North
In addition to the positive business development, 2022 was a very special year for the contract logistics provider, as the construction project of the new logistics center in Ulm North was completed in the anniversary year. Only 705 days passed from the signing of the contract to the inauguration on November 18, 2022. The groundbreaking took place on May 18, 2021. The five hall areas with more than 100,000 pallet spaces and block storage were put into operation in phases. A particular logistical challenge was the two-week move of the administration from Donautal to the north of Ulm, which was carried out while maintaining live operations.
Regarding the sustainability goals of the company group, emissions were reduced through the test deployment of electric semi-trucks in the trailer yard at the Rastatt location and the use of an electric truck in local transport in Ulm. After the successful test phase in Rastatt, the semi-truck will transition to regular operation in the second quarter of 2023. Additionally, a photovoltaic system covering approximately 40,000 square meters will be put into operation on the roof of the new logistics center in Ulm, generating 5.5 MWp of electricity. This corresponds to a production of electricity sufficient to supply all 45 locations of the logistics provider. Thus, the Seifert Logistics Group actively contributes to environmental relief.
Reaching 300 Million Euros This Year
For 2023, the logistics provider plans to break the 300 million euro mark. “Our employees and thus sustainable growth are our top priority,” explains Frey. “To achieve our ambitious goals, training and further education are important aspects of our corporate strategy,” Frey further explains. In addition to training, the Seifert Logistics Group is increasingly focusing on leadership development. In 2023, an 18-month part-time training program for high potentials was introduced. Additionally, the shift leaders of the Seifert Logistics Group undergo training that provides participants with specialized and methodological training.
