Apr 13, 2023 at 5:57 PMResilience is currently omnipresent in many areas of daily life. Various industries and politics are also increasingly focusing on this topic. This is one reason why it ranks high on the agenda of the transport logistic conference, which will take place from May 9 to 12, 2023, at the exhibition center in Munich. The Federal Association of Logistics (BVL) will host a specialist forum and has published a white paper in advance of the transport logistic, which is now available for free download.
(Munich) The logistics industry faces the challenging task of creating more resilient value chains that meet the conditions of the VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) and BANI (brittle, anxious, non-linear, incomprehensible) world. Until a few years ago, the lean concept was at the center of value chain planning.
Today, alongside cost minimization, delivery capability must be more strongly integrated into planning, while simultaneously calculating risks along the value chains. This makes planning more complex, as do the methods and tools used in the process.
Study Shows Optimization Opportunities
The authors Dr. Martin Schwemmer, Managing Director of BVL, and Saskia Sardesai, Deputy Head of Supply Chain Engineering at Fraunhofer IML, assess the situation and recent developments. Based on this, they outline possible strategies for how companies can make their value chains more resilient. Opportunities primarily lie in the areas of cost accounting, procurement, IT and digital infrastructure, as well as collaboration beyond company boundaries.
Conference Program Focused on Resilience
The BVL session during the transport logistic, titled “The Impact of Geopolitics on Your Supply Chain – Current Assessment and Outlook” (May 9, 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Forum Hall B2), will explore this and other aspects. The session will be moderated by Dr. Tilo Bobel, Global Head of Continuous Improvement, Lean and Automation at A.P. Moeller Maersk. Speakers include Dr. Udo Lange, President and CEO of FedEx Logistics Memphis, Andreas Schulz, Head of Main Department at TRUMPF Werkzeugmaschinen, Thomas Heck, Partner and Head of China Business Group in Germany & Europe at PwC, and Wolfram Senger-Weiss, Chairman of the Management Board at Gebrüder Weiss.
