Arthur Bill and Peter Bieder Inducted into Swiss Supply Chain Hall of Fame
4. May 2023The Study Society for Combined Transport (SGKV e.V.) has published the statistical dashboard for Combined Transport (KV) as an add-on to its annual statistical report “Figures and Facts” on its website. At sgkv.de/der-kombinierte-verkehr/zahlen-zum-kv/, you can view the key figures for KV over the last five years at a glance.
(Berlin) The data basis is provided by the evaluations in the SGKV statistical report, which are based on official statistics. The statistical report on Combined Transport, prepared annually by SGKV e.V., is now publicly available in the new edition “Figures and Facts 2022”. It can be downloaded from the SGKV website (sgkv.de) at sgkv.de/publikationen/zahlen-und-fakten/. For SGKV members, it has been accessible online since mid-March 2023.
Evaluations Based on the Reporting Year 2021
The report contains evaluations based on official statistics for the reporting year 2021. It examines both the rail and waterway combined transport as well as the total freight transport in Germany. Furthermore, the report provides references to forecasts regarding the volume and performance development for total freight transport and rail-side KV. In addition to the official statistics, the report includes two excursions: firstly, a graphical representation of the accessibility of KV terminals in Germany within 60 minutes of travel time in the road-side pre- and/or post-haul based on an isochrone calculation, and secondly, the funding needs for investments in KV transshipment facilities until 2031, which were determined through a survey conducted by SGKV among terminal operators and owners. The result of the funding needs is compared to the available funding in the federal budget 2023.
Three Interesting Facts in Advance:
- After the decline in transport volumes and performance in 2020, almost all transport sectors of freight transport were able to achieve expected increases in 2021.
- Combined Transport (KV) in Germany showed the highest growth rates alongside air transport in 2021 and was able to significantly increase its share of total freight transport from 2.5% to 2.7% (volume) and from 7.9% to 8.3% (performance). The driver of these increases was rail-side KV, which achieved an increase of +12.3% in transport volume and +11.5% in transport performance in 2021.
- According to existing medium-term forecasts, KV continues to be regarded as a growth driver in rail freight transport. KV is projected to have the second-highest growth rate of all freight transport modes in Germany by 2024, with +6.6% in transport volume and +8.1% in transport performance.
