Winners of the Eco Performance Award 2023 Announced
9. May 2023Ermewa, a leading European company in the rental of rail cars, has Nexxiot selected for the next phase of its digitization process. For its more than 45,000 rail cars (120 types), the rail car operator offers comprehensive maintenance and repair services as well as services through a Europe-wide network of certified workshops and partners. The company provides its customers with solutions for decarbonizing the supply chain, thereby accelerating the modal shift to climate-friendly rail transport.
(Paris/Zurich) Ermewa will integrate Nexxiot’s asset intelligence technology into its existing telematics portfolio. This enables the company to utilize real-time data in Nexxiot’s cloud-based solutions, including important data such as location, utilization, mileage, and vibrations that affect maintenance issues, transport quality, and safety. Nexxiot’s existing partnership with Knorr-Bremse was a key factor in the decision to cooperate. As a technology partner of Knorr-Bremse, Nexxiot is a driving force in the digitization of components to optimize their maintenance and maximize fleet uptime.
“As part of their strategy to shift goods from road to rail, our customers demand higher availability of rail cars. We meet this demand with efficient maintenance processes supported by the best digital monitoring capabilities,” said Peter Reinshagen, Managing Director of Ermewa. “The partnership with Nexxiot allows Ermewa to offer an additional level of maintenance control, benefiting our customers in terms of access to the fleet and transport quality.”
Dr. Nicolas Lange, Chairman of the Management Board of Knorr-Bremse Systems for Rail Vehicles, added: “When we started the partnership with Nexxiot, we hoped to support our customers in improving productivity, reliability, and safety while advancing the shift to rail to accelerate decarbonization. With high-quality real-time data on the current state of a variety of subsystems, we can manage the scheduling and execution of maintenance tasks much more precisely, ensuring that the rail cars spend as little time as possible in workshops.”
New Standard in Accuracy
The asset intelligence technology from Nexxiot, chosen by Ermewa, consists of an interoperable system of ATEX-certified Globehopper gateways and an intelligent cloud that provides access to live data. This solution sets a new standard in accuracy for the global monitoring of deployed load carriers and freight containers. It features an open architecture for integrating data from various sources to obtain a complete overview of the assets and fleets.
Important Step for the Global Rail Industry
“We support Ermewa’s step to further advance the ‘digital freight train’ of the future in Europe,” says Stefan Kalmund, CEO of Nexxiot. “This is an important step for the global rail industry as it raises the bar for quality and ensures that rail transport offers optimum safety with maximum availability – for both cargo owners and all stakeholders in the supply chain.”
