15. May 2023TX Logistik AG is expanding its fleet of own locomotives for intermodal transport. Together with the Italian railway Ferrovie dello Stato as the parent company, a contract for the purchase of 40 modern Vectron locomotives in the MS variant has been signed with the rolling stock manufacturer Siemens Mobility at the transport logistic trade fair.
(Troisdorf) Additionally, the acquisition of 25 more Vectron locomotives has been agreed upon, which includes both the MS and AC variants.
With the purchase of the new locomotives, TX Logistik aims to create the capacity to continue growing in international rail freight transport, which the company is responsible for within the Mercitalia Logistics group (Gruppo FS Italiane). The machines have been ordered with various country packages. 20 Vectron locomotives will be equipped for the Germany-Austria-Italy corridor (D-A-I), while 20 will have the country package for operations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and the Netherlands (D-A-CH-I-NL).
The first locomotives are expected to be delivered to TX Logistik starting in September 2024, with the last models scheduled for delivery in December 2025. The maintenance of the locomotives has also been awarded to Siemens Mobility by TX Logistik as part of a full-service contract.
FS invests 2.9 billion euros in the next ten years
The investment in modern equipment is also another step in the consistent implementation of the business plan of the FS Italiane group. It foresees investments of 2.9 billion euros over the next ten years to significantly promote the operational and economic development of sustainable logistics assets around rail freight transport both in Italy and in Europe.
