22. May 2023The Eco Performance Award 2023 is over, and the winners and finalists have been announced and honored. In a series, Loginfo24 presents the winners and finalists. Today, we feature Krummen Kerzers AG from Switzerland, which won the Eco Performance Award 2023 in the category of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
(Kerzers) Europe’s prestigious award for sustainability in road freight transport in the SME category goes to Kerzers in Switzerland. Krummen Kerzers AG is recognized with the Eco Performance Award for its sustainability strategy and pioneering work in fossil-free transport.
Great Commitment to Sustainable Transport Solutions
“Transport is one of the largest greenhouse gas emitters in Switzerland, and for years, we have failed to reduce these emissions. As a transport and logistics company, we do not want to be just part of the problem, but primarily part of the solution,” explains Peter Krummen about the commitment.
“Doing is like wanting – only more intense” is the motto of Krummen Kerzers AG
With a can-do mentality, pioneering spirit, and a solid sustainability strategy, Krummen Kerzers’ application impressed the jury. “On behalf of the entire jury, I congratulate the team of Krummen Kerzers on the Eco Performance Award 2023. The transport and logistics company particularly impressed the expert jury with its strong commitment to ecological sustainability in freight transport,” congratulates Professor Dr. Wolfgang Stölzle, Managing Director at the Institute for Supply Chain Management at the University of St. Gallen.
Record Journey with an E-Truck
Clearly relieved, driver Balint Schnell steps out of his E-Truck in Zurich and opens the rear doors of his 40-ton truck. The attending guests are thrilled. 20 tons of oranges, transported over 3000 kilometers, without a liter of diesel. No one has dared to do this before.
The record journey from Switzerland to Valencia and back has been successful: In Zurich, Boris Jost, owner and managing director of Casa del Mas, and Peter Krummen, co-managing director of Krummen Kerzers, joyfully welcome the Volvo FH Electric. “The trip to Spain sets new standards. We are confident that E-Trucks will become commonplace for long distances in a few years,” Peter Krummen is sure. Here are more details about the record journey:

Only Swiss Transport Company Committed to 1.5°C
Krummen Kerzers is the only Swiss transport company committed to the 1.5°C target of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI). Due to its core business, over 90% of the company’s CO2 emissions arise from the operation of trucks. From the oil field to the combustion engine, it is a long way. Burning one liter of diesel causes over 3 kilograms of CO2 with the upstream chain. Krummen Kerzers aims to avoid these emissions by using non-fossil fuels or drive technologies.
Aspiring Reduction Targets
By 2030, the company must reduce nearly 50% of all greenhouse gases to meet its commitment to the 1.5°C target. “The goal is ambitious, but we consider climate change to be the greatest threat to our and future generations, so it is high time to phase out diesel and replace it with more sustainable alternatives,” says Peter Krummen. By the end of 2023, the company will have 18 fully electric trucks, several biogas trucks, and three of its own superchargers in operation. This will reduce CO2 emissions by 2000 tons annually.
