The Economic Makers Promote Logistics Careers in Munich
22. May 2023On the occasion of transport logistic, ORBCOMM presented its new temperature monitoring solution, which allows the leading IoT technology provider to expand its portfolio around cold chains. The RT 8000, available in summer, facilitates the automation of processes through enhanced connectivity, accelerated access to large data volumes, and wireless sensors.
(Bonn) In this way, it not only enables digitized decision-making but also ensures compliance with current regulations and a consistently high level of cargo security in trailer fleets. “The ORBCOMM RT 8000 will significantly advance the way European cold chain operators in food distribution, retail logistics, and the pharmaceutical industry track and monitor their temperature-controlled cargo,” said Lina Paerez, Vice President Global Marketing at ORBCOMM. As part of the comprehensive cold chain telematics solution, which includes sensors, connectivity options, and the ORBCOMM platform tailored to real-world needs, the RT 8000 allows for comprehensive temperature monitoring, precise fuel management, as well as preventive maintenance, remote control, etc.
The new devices were developed with the goal of reducing the frequency of on-site replacements. Shippers and carriers can make informed decisions about their cold transport business in real-time thanks to access to real-time and historical data, as well as event-based alerts. This improves the operational efficiency of cold fleets and ensures that the products in the cold chain comply with all legal regulations and, above all, remain intact. This, in turn, reduces the number of complaints due to cargo losses and damages.
The newly introduced RT 8000 solution offers faster and extended connectivity options, larger storage, and three embedded SIM cards. Fleets can therefore capture a larger amount of cold vehicle data significantly faster and more cost-effectively. The future-proof technology of the solution also increases the reliability of reports. Since the device series along with peripherals complies with EN 12830 requirements, companies fully meet the European standard for cold chain traceability.
Reporting Possible Without External Power Supply
Moreover, the numerous new interfaces of the solution make it easy for customers to connect any visibility, utilization, productivity, safety, or EBS/TMPS application. The comprehensive support for wireless sensors for temperature and doors, as well as the integration of Tractor ID for the automatic coupling of tractor and trailer, significantly ease installation. Additionally, fleets can seamlessly expand their cold chain management with additional features. Thanks to IP67 certification, the robust RT 8000 series is designed for operation under extreme environmental conditions. It also features an internal battery backup that allows reporting without an external power supply.
