HGK consolidates terminals on the Rhine and Ruhr
27. June 2023Those who use closed freight exchanges are maximally flexible while still operating within their familiar network. This was the message from David Moog at the 4th TIMOCOM Innovation Day. Exclusive freight exchanges are quite popular at TIMOCOM. They function like open freight exchanges, but the operator can choose their members.
(Erkrath) “The goal of the closed freight exchange is to work as efficiently as possible with one’s own network of service providers, branches, partner locations, or members of an association,” says David Moog, Strategic Product Manager at TIMOCOM. Indeed, closed freight exchanges are often used by industrial companies with fixed service providers, associations, companies with multiple locations, or those with a dedicated fleet.
They particularly appreciate the exclusivity of closed freight exchanges. The members are selected by the group owner, allowing freight offers to be sent to all familiar partners with a single click. In Germany, for example, the option is used by Transfrigoroute, an association for temperature-controlled transport. Managing Director Roger Schwarz explains that having their own freight exchange within the TIMOCOM cosmos gives association members the assurance of working with known experts and fosters collaboration.
Maximal Flexibility with Closed Freight Exchanges
When entering freight and selecting the appropriate service provider, the initiators of closed freight exchanges have access to all the functions of the marketplace: They can allow price offers, engage with service providers without obligation, and handle assignments digitally directly from the group. The group owners also determine what rights individual members have and can transfer freight offers to the open spot market after a specified duration. “Those who use the closed freight exchange are maximally flexible,” summarizes Moog.
