LIP Market Report Logistics Real Estate Second Quarter 2023
24. August 2023With the expansion of two of its locations, the Rhenus Group is enhancing its network in Germany for (inter)national road transport. While a completely new logistics facility with state-of-the-art storage, transshipment, and office spaces is being built in Nuremberg, Rhenus is extensively expanding the existing logistics facility at the Dietzenbach location to meet the growing demand for storage and transshipment space.
(Holzwickede/Ditzenbach/Nuremberg) Rhenus is proud to grow organically and expand its network with new locations for Rhenus Road Freight. In Nuremberg, a new logistics facility with transshipment and storage hall is being constructed on an area of nearly 17,000 square meters. Since the new building borders the existing high-bay warehouse of Rhenus Warehousing Solutions, customers will benefit in the future from an optimal interplay of various processes: In addition to short-term interim storage of goods from transport, products from long-term storage in the high-bay warehouse can also be quickly and easily prepared for (inter)national road transport. After completion, a total of nearly 25,000 square meters of logistics space will be available across divisions. The general contractor responsible for the construction of the new facility is Max Bögl, based in Nuremberg.
The Dietzenbach location is also being impressively expanded. New here: Both hazardous materials and pharmaceutical products with special temperature requirements can be stored. The goods from customers in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries are subject to various legal regulations regarding storage, all of which will be applied in the new logistics hall in Dietzenbach. In Dietzenbach, Rhenus is collaborating with the general contractor Köster.
This is what the new Rhenus facility in Nuremberg will look like
“We are pleased to be able to meet the growing demand from our customers in the economic regions of Frankfurt and Nuremberg. In Dietzenbach alone, we are expanding our transshipment areas by around 50 percent, and in Nuremberg, we are doubling our current cross-dock to strengthen our presence, especially in the euro-national piece goods traffic,” explains Nenad Lukic, Managing Director of Rhenus Road Freight.
Completion Planned for Spring 2024
Rhenus places great importance on sustainability in its expansion and new construction. For example, a green roof will be installed in Dietzenbach, and a large part of the construction materials from the demolished old building from the 1970s will be reused in Nuremberg. Both locations will also receive a photovoltaic system, treat rainwater, and will be constructed according to the Building Energy Act (GEG) 40 instead of the currently required GEG 55. Employees will also benefit: A new and modern working environment with open spaces, idea workshops, and feel-good areas will be created for them. The two facilities in Nuremberg and Dietzenbach are expected to be completed in spring 2024.
