DHL Expands Package Transport on Water in Berlin
24. August 2023The Alfred Schuon GmbH is consistently pursuing its course of ongoing innovation and modernization. In this context, the transport and logistics specialist based in Haiterbach is investing in around 50 new vehicles this year – tractor units and trailers from Daimler as well as ultra-light jumbos from MAN. This will reduce the average age of the company’s fleet to two years. Additionally, the company is acquiring its first fully electric truck.
(Haiterbach) The investments underscore Schuon’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art solutions to meet customer needs while continuously reducing the environmental impact of its fleet. “With the acquisition of new vehicles, we are essentially pursuing two goals: on the one hand, to meet the increasing demands of our customers. On the other hand, a modern fleet significantly contributes to achieving our ambitious goals regarding emissions and efficiency,” says Frank Wohlgemuth, fleet manager of Alfred Schuon GmbH. Accordingly, all vehicles in the Schuon fleet have been meeting the highest applicable emissions standard EURO 6 for some time now. The new vehicles will be used both at the headquarters in Haiterbach and at the company’s Hungarian branch.
In addition, the logistics specialist is putting around 80 trailers and semi-trailers into service. The acquisition of the new vehicles comes at a time when the delivery situation is normalizing after the uncertainties caused by production and delivery stoppages due to the Corona pandemic and numerous conflicts. This enables Schuon to offer its services efficiently and optimize supply chains for its customers with various types of vehicles. An example of this are the ultra-light jumbos, which impress with maximum efficiency.
Deployment in Scheduled Traffic
An additional impetus in terms of sustainability and future viability is provided by the family-owned company with the acquisition of a fully electric Actros tractor unit. Managing Director Alexander Schuon states: “Even though the technology is still in its infancy, we believe it is necessary to face this future technology in light of upcoming developments.” The electric truck is to be used in scheduled traffic, where it is expected to cover around 400 kilometers a day with appropriate battery recharges. As a result, the Schuon Group is setting the course with this investment to continue offering tailored transport and logistics solutions and to successfully meet the changing challenges of the industry.
