Aug 25, 2023 at 6:57 PMThe fleet management specialist Webfleet has set a new Guinness World Record: 311.18 miles or 500.80 kilometers is the longest distance an electric van has ever traveled on a single charge. The record was achieved by Webfleet-sponsored drivers Kevin Booker, Sam Clarke, and Fergal McGrath in a FIAT E-Scudo, equipped with energy-efficient Bridgestone Duravis tires.
(London/Leipzig) Independently verified video footage, as well as odometer, GPS, and battery status data from Webfleet, showed that the compact van with a 75 kWh battery and a WLTP value of 205 miles averaged 4.5 miles per kilowatt-hour (kWh) on a circuit through Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, and Northamptonshire in the UK.
The drive lasted for 13 hours and nine minutes during the day. The FIAT E-Scudo did not need to be modified, and the route combined urban and rural roads to reflect real-world conditions. The E-Scudo was specifically chosen for this challenge because it has the best range in its class.
Telematics for E-Mobility
“We are very proud of the title Guinness World Record. This is an outstanding achievement. The previous record of 258.85 miles was set in the USA. Bringing it to Europe represents our ambition to become a world-leading telematics provider in the field of electromobility,” says Wolfgang Schmid, Webfleet Head of Central Region at Bridgestone Mobility Solutions. “The record not only highlights the current capabilities of electric vehicles and Bridgestone’s modern tire technology for businesses and urban mobility but also demonstrates the impact drivers can have on the energy consumption of electric vehicles.”
Taco van der Leij, VP Fleet Management Solutions Europe at Bridgestone Mobility Solutions, adds: “Connected data from electric vehicles play a crucial role in the electrification of mobility, enabling fleet companies to monitor driver behavior, compare their energy performance, and even analyze how much kinetic energy is recovered through regenerative braking. This allows targeted coaching to be offered where it is most needed.”
Tires as a Decisive Component
The tires chosen by Webfleet for the test, Bridgestone Duravis, were seen as a crucial component for winning the title, as they provide excellent mileage and low rolling resistance.
