Aug 31, 2023 at 7:57 PMAlberto Nobis will become the new Chief Executive Officer of VTG GmbH on October 1, 2023. In his new role, he will be responsible for the management and development of more than 50 locations in 20 European countries, providing services along the entire rail logistics chain – from wagon leasing and rail logistics to traction with the in-house railway company Retrack, as well as wagon maintenance and new construction.
(Hamburg) Nobis brings decades of leadership experience combined with an impressive track record in the logistics industry. He comes from the DHL Group, where he managed the DHL Express business unit in increasingly complex roles – initially in finance up to the global CFO position (2009–2012). He later transitioned to executive positions at local, regional, and global levels. In his last position, from early 2019 to summer 2023, Nobis served as CEO of DHL Express Europe, overseeing a portfolio of over 50 countries and 45,000 employees. Under his leadership, the DHL Express business unit became the European market leader in terms of market share, margin, customer satisfaction, and employee engagement.
“Alberto Nobis embodies all the qualities we need to further expand VTG’s leading position in Europe in the coming years,” said Dr. Alexander Granderath, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of VTG GmbH. “He is a renowned international leader who is passionately committed to customer orientation, operational excellence, and dedicated teams, and has an outstanding track record in transforming companies. We will support him in every possible way in his task of decisively and sustainably advancing the transformation of VTG.”
Making rail freight transport even more attractive
“Few other European asset and logistics companies possess such potential, which is simultaneously associated with so much tradition and innovation, as VTG,” said Alberto Nobis. “I am very much looking forward to working with my management colleagues Mark Stevenson and Sven Wellbrock. Together, we will consistently build on this potential in close collaboration with the experience and creativity of our employees to make rail freight transport more attractive for the shipping industry. By convincing our customers in Europe of the strength of the rail system, we actively contribute to the shift in transport modes.”
