Ken Ogenbratt appointed as second Managing Director and CFO at ecovium
7. September 2023After many years of collaboration, Uelzena eG and the international technology company Körber have successfully implemented another joint project. The northern German dairy processing company commissioned Körber’s SAP supply chain experts last year to implement an SAP embedded EWM for the Altmark-Käserei Uelzena GmbH at the Bismark location. After nine months, the warehouse solution went live.
(Bad Nauheim/Bismark) As one of the leading providers and innovative problem solvers in food processing and dairy refinement, the Uelzena Group continuously optimizes its processes, including within the supply chain. For the Bismark location (Saxony-Anhalt), where butter and cheese for the Uelzena Ingredients business unit are produced, they sought a suitable partner to make the management of warehouse processes even more efficient. Uelzena has been working with Körber for many years on various projects, so they relied on the experienced SAP experts in this case as well. During the design phase, Körber and Uelzena’s IT and logistics team ensured that all requirements for the new warehouse management processes and the integration of warehouse management into the existing SAP ERP system on S/4HANA were implemented. In particular, the extensive integration of the SAP QM (Quality Management) and SAP PP (Production Planning) modules was meticulously designed. The SAP EWM basic functions were implemented, consisting of manual warehouse management for the Bismark location, production integration, and QM processes for both internal and external goods receipt.
Karl-Heinz Kern, CEO Consulting, Körber Business Area Supply Chain, (Körber) expressed his satisfaction with the long-term collaboration: “With Uelzena, we look back on numerous successful projects. Long partnerships allow for close cooperation. We achieved this at the Bismark location, resulting in effective work not only in terms of costs and time but also allowing us to pay special attention to certain processes. A highlight is certainly that we were able to implement a lean new solution for the relocation of Q-stock from the Altmark-Käserei plant to the main plant in Uelzen.”
Martin Elte (Plant Manager Uelzena) also views the project positively: “Our goal was a more streamlined logistics that considers future developments. The close collaboration between Körber’s experienced SAP EWM project team and our staff has enabled us to redesign our warehouse processes in a value-adding manner, allowing us to fully meet our quality standards in daily inbound and outbound logistics in the long term.”
Further Locations to Follow
After the introduction of the SAP embedded EWM at the pilot location Bismark went satisfactorily, Uelzena plans to gradually expand the SAP solution together with Körber for the warehouse locations in Uelzen and Ratzeburg. The goal is to replace the warehouse locations currently operated with SAP LE-WM by the end of the compatibility mode in S/4HANA and to replace the existing SAP LE-TRA add-ons with SAP TM.
