Groundbreaking for Hydrogen Filling Station in GVZ Augsburg
23. September 2023Pilot project at DSV in Weilerswist: The international logistics company is testing the fully electric truck model Volta Zero from Volta Trucks in Germany for the first time over a period of two weeks. DSV hopes to gain insights to make the decarbonization of road transport in urban areas even more sustainable – and safer.
(Bremen) An E-truck of the type Volta Zero with zero exhaust emissions was handed over to the logistics service provider DSV on September 20, 2023, for an upcoming test phase. This supports the existing E-truck fleet, which has been ensuring emissions-free local deliveries to the markets of dm-drogerie markt in Bonn since the beginning of the year.
Sustainability and Safety
The unique feature of the Volta Zero model is the driver’s position: A lowered central seating position allows for a direct view of 220 degrees, while cameras provide an additional 360-degree visibility from a bird’s eye perspective.
From the central seating position, the driver can enter and exit onto the sidewalk from both sides through sliding doors, which increases safety for both the driver and passing cyclists and pedestrians. “Decarbonization goes hand in hand with the aim of making urban deliveries safer for everyone involved. The Volta Zero is a promising vehicle and has the potential to revolutionize urban delivery traffic,” says DSV Road Chief Peter Fog-Petersen.
With a battery capacity of 150 to 225 kWh, depending on the specification, the Volta Zero offers a real all-electric range of 150 to 200 km on a single charge.
Usuf Schermo, Head of Sales at Volta Trucks: “We are very pleased that the Volta Zero is now in operation on Germany’s roads as part of our Driving Experience Program – and that DSV is using the vehicle for customer deliveries in everyday work. At Volta Trucks, we focus on creating more sustainable, safer, and healthier cities and advancing the electrification of urban delivery traffic.” The two-week test aims to determine to what extent the model can be used by DSV for last-mile deliveries.
DSV on the Path to Net Zero
In 2021, DSV launched Green Logistics. This is an ambitious package of green solutions ranging from CO2 reporting and strategic supply chain optimization to emissions compensation and sustainable fuel offerings. Each solution aims to reduce the emissions of DSV’s customers and DSV’s Scope 3 emissions for subcontracted transport. The Danish logistics company has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Additionally, DSV has set short-term sustainability goals for 2030, including a 50% reduction in its direct emissions and purchased energy sources, as well as a 30% reduction in indirect emissions from the value chain.
