23. September 2023Alternative drives on the rise: In the freight transport center (GVZ) region of Augsburg, a public filling station will supply commercial vehicles, buses, and cars with green hydrogen starting in 2024. Tyczka Hydrogen held the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction on September 22, 2023.
(Augsburg) Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH is expanding the existing multi-energy site in the GVZ region of Augsburg to include green hydrogen as a fuel. Located in close proximity to the A8 and B17, it complements the existing offerings of LNG, LPG, and truck diesel from BayWa Power Liquids GmbH and Kloiber GmbH. The filling station will be operated by Tyczka Hydrogen and supplied with its own trailers. The hydrogen is produced, among other places, in the joint venture Hy2B Wasserstoff GmbH, together with BayWa, in Pfeffenhausen, Lower Bavaria.
The filling station offers hydrogen at 350 and 700 bar and can refuel all common vehicles, from cars to buses and special vehicles to heavy trucks. In the first expansion phase, it will fill about 10 to 20 commercial vehicle tanks with approximately 500 kg per day. If there is high demand at the filling station, capacity can be increased through additional investments.
In choosing the location, the freight transport center in the north of Augsburg scored points due to its proximity to end users in the areas of vehicle development, industry, mobility, and logistics, who are already relying on fuel cells for trucks, buses, and industrial trucks.
Funding from the State Ministry
The filling station is being funded by the State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy as part of the H2T program. Currently, there are 16 hydrogen filling stations in operation in Bavaria, with 12 more planned or under construction (source: www.h2.live). In the Augsburg region, the new site is the second hydrogen filling station after Derching.
“In the dynamic hydrogen market, we are consolidating our activities at locations with high potential. In the freight transport center Augsburg, we encounter an above-average density of partners and end users who are already focusing on hydrogen. With our project, we lower the entry barrier for hydrogen mobility in the region,” said Thomas Zorn, Managing Director of Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH.
Dr. Frank Götzelmann, CEO of the Tyczka Group, performed the groundbreaking ceremony together with Richard Greiner, Mayor of Neusäß, Dr. Wolfgang Hübschle, Economic Advisor of the City of Augsburg, and Ferdinand Kloiber, Managing Director of the namesake operating company of the filling station, as well as numerous guests from the region and businesses in the freight transport center.
Big step towards the energy transition
Dr. Wolfgang Hübschle, Economic Advisor of the City of Augsburg, commented: “For the Augsburg region and our freight transport center, the filling station is a big step towards the energy transition. It helps our industrial, transport, and logistics companies in the introduction of climate-friendly commercial vehicles. We are very pleased with the decision for this location and the Bavarian power with which the partners are advancing the construction.”
