12. October 2023Optimized Control: SEPARATION AG from Eynatten, Belgium, significantly enhances the quality of its services. The company, specialized in the sorting of plastic granulates and part of the GREIWING Group, now offers its customers automated and thus optimized quality control.
(Greven/Eynatten) The basis for this is the innovative measurement technology from Optical Control Systems (OCS) GmbH. With the pellet scanner PS25C, highly transparent and opaque granulates are analyzed using a color matrix camera on a vibrating plate. This method reliably detects contamination within minutes, ensuring a smooth production process.
“We guarantee our customers high-quality services. Comprehensive quality controls through opto-electronic sorting are essential in this context. With the innovative measurement technology from OCS, we additionally have the opportunity to check samples at a resolution of 30 micrometers,” says Jürgen Greiwing, managing director of SEPARATION AG.
Comprehensive Procedures for Quality Improvement
SEPARATION AG has been part of the GREIWING corporate group since 2020 and has been specializing in opto-electronic sorting of plastic granulates for 20 years, offering comprehensive procedures for quality improvement at its location in Eynatten, Belgium. Especially in industries such as automotive and pharmaceuticals, the highest possible quality is crucial, as even the smallest impurities in the final product could be visible, potentially leading to a malfunction.
To ensure that the sorted goods meet the customer’s quality requirements and are free from even the smallest foreign bodies, samples of usually 500 grams are taken during and at the end of a sorting process. The approximately 25,000 granulates contained in such a sample are scanned by the PS25C measuring device using modern LED technology and a 3-CMOS industrial camera within minutes for possible errors.
Thus, twelve kilograms of granulates can be checked within an hour. A multi-lane flap system reliably sorts out contaminations of 30 micrometers in size and an inspection channel of 60 millimeters in width. Markus Piepenbrink, Sales Manager of OCS GmbH, explains: “Contaminations are inspected and recorded across the entire RGB color space. The granulate moving through the pellet scanner is comprehensively captured by the cameras from various perspectives.”
Real-time Transmission to Production and Process Control
Should anomalies such as black specks occur in the sample, the goods can be re-separated until the quality meets the requirements. Another advantage of the OCS device is the real-time transmission to production and process control, as well as the subsequent evaluation of the sorted pellets by further analysis systems. Jürgen Greiwing states: “With the measuring device from the market leader OCS, we significantly increase reliability once again. Our customers can rely on the fact that their sorted goods meet the highest possible quality.”
