13. October 2023Convincing arguments from Transport Minister Dr. Volker Wissing and State Secretary Oliver Luksic have fortunately prevailed within the traffic light coalition. The climate protection contribution in the form of up to 10% CO2 savings can now be tackled by the industry.
(Berlin) In light of the conclusion of the departmental coordination on the Twelfth Regulation amending the regulation on exceptions from road traffic regulations for vehicles and vehicle combinations with excessive length, which is intended to allow the use of Long Trucks Type 1 even after the expiration of the temporary approval at the end of December 2023, BGL board spokesman Prof. Dr. Dirk Engelhardt states:
“The agreement within the traffic light government that Long Trucks Type 1 can continue to operate after 2023 was long overdue! Thanks to the efforts of FDP Transport Minister Dr. Volker Wissing and State Secretary Oliver Luksic, the better arguments ultimately prevailed. If the self-proclaimed progress coalition is serious about climate protection in road freight transport, it must enable such progress, make decisions faster in the future, and show more openness to technology. Simply saying no will not save a ton of CO2.”
