TIMOCOM and DSLV Discuss the Sense and Nonsense of Toll Fees
28. October 2023No matter what one thinks of the toll increase and whether it makes sense or not, it must be addressed. Therefore, Toll Collect GmbH informs about the new rates and framework conditions. The amendment to the Federal Road Toll Act has passed the Bundestag and the Bundesrat. This confirms the start of the CO₂ toll on December 1, 2023. At the same time, the technically permissible total weight (tzGm) will be the basis for classification into the weight class.
(Berlin) The third law to amend toll regulations was passed without changes compared to the version that the Federal Cabinet decided on in the summer. In the future, the toll will include a partial rate for traffic-related CO₂ emissions – in addition to the already applicable partial rates for infrastructure, noise, and air pollution costs. The resulting new rates have been published today on our website.
In accordance with EU regulations, vehicles will in the future be classified into emission classes. Emission-free trucks are exempt from toll obligations until December 31, 2025. After that, they will pay a toll partial rate reduced by 75 percent for infrastructure as well as noise and air pollution costs.
Toll Collect recommends all customers to prepare in good time for the toll expansion. Check the CO₂ emission class and the technically permissible total weight of your vehicles now in our customer portal. Trucks equipped with CNG/LNG drive from the factory in Euro emission class 6 will be subject to tolls starting January 1, 2024.
From July 2024, vehicles over 3.5 tons will also be subject to tolls
From July 1, 2024, all vehicles with a technically permissible total weight of more than 3.5 tons will have to pay tolls for the use of federal highways – both solo vehicles and vehicle combinations. Exceptions exist for vehicles from craft businesses.
