The Turkish Transport Market Remains Important for TX Logistik
7. November 2023On behalf of Transport Minister Martin Dulig, Stephan Berger, Head of the Mobility Department at the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport (SMWA), along with Heiko Loroff, Managing Director of SBO (Saxon Inland Ports Oberelbe GmbH), conducted the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new TrailerPort in Alberthafen Dresden today, in the presence of around 70 guests from politics and business.
(Dresden) The new TrailerPort is set to be built on the south side of the port by June 2024. The investment costs for the project amount to around five million euros, of which approximately two million euros will be funded by the federal KV funding guideline (Guideline for the Promotion of Handling Facilities for Combined Transport).
Since 2021, the TrailerPort has been part of the SBO portfolio in Alberthafen Dresden. Here, around 25,000 trailers (semi-trailers) with a volume of approximately 600,000 tons are loaded from road to rail each year to transport goods from Saxony, Bohemia, and Southeast Europe in an environmentally friendly and climate-friendly manner towards Scandinavia. To meet the increasing demand for rail transport in combined transport and for traffic shifts, the new TrailerPort is now being constructed, which will be able to handle up to 50,000 trailers and containers per year in the future.
Saxony Relies on Efficient Freight Transport
State Minister Martin Dulig emphasized in light of today’s groundbreaking ceremony: “Saxony, as an export and transit region, relies on a functioning and efficient freight transport system. The projected significant increase in the share of heavy traffic by 2030 poses great challenges for us and requires multimodal, economical, and at the same time climate-friendly solutions. Therefore, the Free State of Saxony, together with the federal government and the European Union, is investing in the expansion of Saxon ports into modern trimodal logistics centers. Since 2021, truck traffic from Southeast Europe to Scandinavia has been shifted from road to rail over a distance of approximately 400 kilometers at Alberthafen. With the new handling facility, up to 42,000 trailers can be handled annually in the future. This not only relieves the highways but is also more climate-friendly in comparison and thus a key component in achieving our climate goals.”
Loading and Unloading Area of 18,000 m²
The construction services for the new TrailerPort will be carried out by Richard Schulz Tiefbau GmbH from Schwarzheide. An area of a total of 18,000 m² will be developed, which will include a loading and unloading area constructed as an AwSV area (sealed area for handling water-hazardous substances) as well as a parking area for about 100 trailers. In the new TrailerPort, up to 20 complete trains per week will be processed in a 3-shift system in the future. Currently, up to 10 complete trains per week are processed in a 2-shift system. As part of the investment project, the procurement of a reach stacker, a terminal tractor, and a shunting vehicle of the type ROTRAC is also planned for handling the trailers and containers.
