Volvo Trucks with Alternatives for Sustainable Commercial Vehicles
17. November 2023After about two years of construction and an investment of 42.5 million Swiss francs (excluding land), Camion Transport AG, a leading transport and logistics company in Switzerland, inaugurated its new Cargo Logistics Center in Cadenazzo on November 16. This milestone marks a significant advancement for the Swiss family-owned company headquartered in Wil SG and underscores its commitment to sustainable solutions as well as improving capacity and efficiency in freight transport.
(Wil/Cadenazzo) “Efficient logistics is crucial for the economic prosperity of a region,” says Josef Jäger, Director and Chairman of the Board of Camion Transport (CT). “The new Cargo Logistics Center in Ticino allows us to provide even better service to our customers across Switzerland. And we are also proud of this: we have contributed to the creation of new jobs. The number of employees at our Ticino branch has increased from 47 to 63 today.”
With a team of over 1500 employees and a fleet of 610 vehicles, CT not only plays an important role as an employer in Switzerland but is also a key player in the field of sustainability. The company actively advocates for environmental protection by providing eco-friendly services, promotes social equality among employees, and contributes to the economic growth of the country. CT strives for a balance between economy and ecology, aiming to maintain its leading role in transport ecology in Switzerland.
The dual transport system of rail and road is the heart of the transport organization. In planning the new Cargo Logistics Center in Cadenazzo, the company prioritized ecological criteria without compromising functionality and stability. Thanks to the direct rail connection, it can ensure the continuity of its dual transport system.
Unique Cargo Logistics Center
The new center in Cadenazzo is characterized by the introduction of numerous eco-friendly innovations and the use of environmentally friendly materials. A photovoltaic system, capable of generating up to 732.26 kilowatts of electricity, spans the entire roof area and allows for a significant portion of its energy needs to be met on-site. Heating is provided by a groundwater heat pump, with heat distribution via ceiling radiant panels. Lighting is entirely LED and is controlled by motion sensors in both the warehouse and office spaces.

The roof structure of the building is made of wood, while the flat roof of the center is covered with gravel. The surrounding area has been planted with native plant species to create a biotope that provides an optimal habitat for various animal species. This contributes to local biodiversity and creates a greener environment. The center also offers comprehensive infrastructure for charging electric vehicles, including various charging stations for passenger cars and three fast-charging stations for commercial vehicles, as well as the innovative system internally referred to as “Elefantino.” The latter is a crane system mounted directly under the roof of the loading area that can move both laterally and in depth, allowing for greater flexibility and efficiency in the loading process.
“To provide our customers with a service that exceeds their expectations and meets future demands, it was crucial to create a modern logistics center in Ticino that is functional and efficient,” emphasizes Giuseppe Di Iorio, Head of Projects and Infrastructure Cadenazzo. “With a net storage area of 4700 square meters and a hazardous materials storage area of 955 square meters, the largest in Ticino, we ensure maximum safety and reliability in handling all goods. This is our commitment to providing the best service for our customers.”
A successful journey to the heart of Ticino
CT, operational in Ticino for sixteen years, has a much longer history that reflects the success that can arise from a strong partnership and the constant pursuit of excellence in the transport and logistics sector.
Two current executives of CT, Giuseppe Di Iorio and Daniele Marrone, founded TDM Servizi in 1995. This company, initially a limited liability company, became a joint-stock company in early 2003, thereby solidifying its presence in the transport and logistics market in Ticino. After a long and successful collaboration, CT acquired the Ticino company in 2007. This acquisition further strengthened its market position in the Canton of Ticino.
Since 2012 as a branch
With the acquisition, CT took over a team of 16 employees and a fleet of 10 vehicles. In 2008, thanks to a contract with the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), CT moved into its own premises at Cadenazzo station. This step marked an important development for the company, which now also benefited from the dual transport system here. In 2012, CT completed the merger with TDM Servizi, and since then, the location in Cadenazzo has operated as a branch.
