Lufthansa Cargo Advances Modernization at Frankfurt Hub
21. November 2023The globally operating logistics service provider Rhenus and the Bosch Group, a leading technology and service company, are reducing their emissions in road freight transport by 80 percent thanks to a renewable fuel from Repsol. With this initiative, the logistics expert demonstrates its special commitment to supporting its customers in achieving their sustainability goals and contributing to the decarbonization of the industry.
(Holzwickede/Stuttgart) As part of the collaboration, Rhenus will operate two vehicles powered by renewable fuel from the Spanish oil and gas producer Repsol. These trucks will commute daily between the Rhenus hub in Irun and Bosch plants in Aranjuez and Madrid.
“Our partnership with Bosch underscores our continuous commitment to innovations and solutions that significantly reduce our environmental impact while helping our customers achieve their sustainability goals,” says Andoni Izquierdo, member of the steering committee of Rhenus Road Spain.
100 Percent Renewable Biofuel
The fuel used by these trucks is an advanced, 100 percent renewable biofuel derived from waste materials such as used cooking oil and forestry residues. It offers an efficient and environmentally friendly alternative and meets the sustainability certifications required by the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive. Last but not least, it reduces CO2 emissions by more than 80 percent compared to conventional fuels, without the need for changes to the vehicle fleet.
With this initiative, Rhenus is taking a pioneering role in the decarbonization of transport and is getting closer to its goal of operating its truck fleet completely CO2-emission-free by 2030. Bosch is simultaneously aiming to make its supply chain more sustainable. The joint project is a central milestone in this effort.
Ignacio Eguiguren, Operations Manager of Rhenus Irun, and Ricardo Almeida, Group Global Key Account Manager, emphasize the importance of the project: “At Rhenus, we believe it is essential to drive the transition to clean and sustainable freight transport. We are excited about the results of this groundbreaking project.”
Collaboration is a Model Example
Cecilia Cintado, Head of Logistics at the Bosch plant in Aranjuez, explains that the joint initiative highlights Bosch’s commitment to the continuous development of new, environmentally friendly processes along the supply chain: “In the Rhenus Group, we have found a strategic partner who shares our needs and goals. The collaboration is a model example of how leading companies from industry and logistics can join forces to anticipate industry developments and based on that, develop and implement a ‘freight transport of tomorrow.'”
