Nov 23, 2023 at 8:05 PMWhen it comes to increasing efficiency and safety in daily transport operations, the correct tire pressure plays an important role. Starting in July 2024, the UN ECE Regulation No. 141 mandates that all newly approved trailers must be equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Schmitz Cargobull is already offering its own TPMS in conjunction with the TrailerConnect® telematics system and will begin standard equipment in early 2024.
(Horstmar) “Since 2018, we have been equipping our trailers as standard from the factory with the Trailer Connect® telematics system. The system can also be easily retrofitted for vehicles from other manufacturers. To monitor tire pressure and temperature, all Schmitz Cargobull trailers will now be equipped with a TPMS. This requirement, which comes into effect in July 2024, that newly approved trailers must have this system, can already be met now,” said Boris Billich, Board Member of Sales at Schmitz Cargobull.
If the tire pressure is not optimally set, it can lead to premature wear and tear of the tires as well as increased fuel consumption, and it also affects road safety in the long term. With the Schmitz Cargobull TPMS, it is easy to maintain the correct inflation pressure, thereby reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions and increasing efficiency. The driving behavior is also significantly improved, and driving safety is greatly enhanced, while the correct tire pressure plays a crucial role in extending the lifespan of the tires.
The TPMS monitors tire pressure in real-time and warns of sudden or gradual pressure loss or overpressure. Early warnings via the TrailerConnect® portal, by email and SMS, as well as through the beSmart app for drivers or the beUpToDate app for dispatchers, enhance safety for road users and cargo. They can always keep an eye on tire pressure and maintain control over their entire fleet. In the full-service contract from Schmitz Cargobull, in addition to the already known advantages, such as covering the costs for replacing worn tires, regular fleet checks, and our Europe-wide breakdown service, the replacement of the TPMS is also included in the package.
beSmart App: Status Recognition for the Driver
With the beSmart app, the driver can read and monitor the status of the tire pressures at any time on their trailer. In-app alarm notifications for deviations allow them to react early and thus minimize downtime. Additionally, tire pressure information is transmitted to the tractor unit via a CanBus interface. Depending on the vehicle type, the corresponding information is also displayed on the tractor unit’s display. This enables continuous monitoring and quick intervention by the driver.
beUpToDate App: Transparent Data Overview for the Dispatcher
With the Trailer Connect® beUpToDate app, fleet managers and dispatchers receive a real-time overview of the most important data of their fleet and can display the positions of their trailers on Google Maps. In addition to temperature and refrigeration unit data or axle load weights, the status of the tire pressures is, of course, also transmitted. This way, the dispatcher always has a complete and transparent overview of all trailer data.
