NOSTA Group opens subsidiary in Romania
1. December 2023Hapag-Lloyd has today opened two new offices in Bulgaria. In the port city of Varna and in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, dedicated teams are ready to assist customers. The country, with its approximately 7.1 million inhabitants, has developed into an attractive market within the European Union and is strategically located in the heart of the Balkan Peninsula.
(Hamburg/Sofia) The Bulgarian economy has grown significantly in recent years, and GDP growth of about 3.5 percent is expected in 2023 and 2024. Bulgaria has a strong energy sector, but also shows significant growth in areas such as mining, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, agriculture, and tourism. The main industrial exports include refined copper, seeds, food additives, medical devices, tobacco, machinery, copper, and zinc. Key import goods include machinery, solar panels, bicycles, and construction materials.
Bulgaria is an attractive growth market for Hapag-Lloyd and occupies a strategic position in Southeast Europe. Hapag-Lloyd connects the Bulgarian ports of Burgas and Varna with important locations in the Middle East, the USA, within Europe, and in Asia with three weekly services. Additionally, Bulgaria serves Central and Eastern European countries via the pan-European Rhine-Danube corridor by truck and rail.
“Our new offices in Bulgaria demonstrate our commitment to the Black Sea region. Bulgaria is an attractive growth market for us with two major ports and good hinterland connections by road and rail,” said Juan Pablo Richards, Senior Managing Director Region South Europe at Hapag-Lloyd. “We are very pleased to open our own offices in this strategically important location, which will enable us to better serve our customers in the Black Sea region and the Balkans.”
