ASPION Introduces New Real-Time Data Logger L-Track
23. January 2024At the turn of the year 2023/24, Söhner Kunststofftechnik has put a new logistics and assembly hall into operation at its headquarters in Schwaigern. In the hall, previously spatially separated assembly areas are being consolidated. This centralization is part of the growth strategy of the packaging manufacturer and serves both process optimization and sustainability.
(Schwaigern) With the commissioning of a new assembly hall at its headquarters in Schwaigern, Söhner Kunststofftechnik GmbH is expanding its capacities for the production and assembly of plastic packaging solutions. Covering an area of around 5,000 square meters, there are two large assembly areas along with the associated logistics, as well as office, break, and sanitary rooms for the employees. “With the construction of the new hall, we are able to bring together previously separated assembly areas and achieve optimization of workflows and material flow,” explains Dr. Theo Doll, managing partner of Söhner Kunststofftechnik. He adds: “Through centralization, we will be able to respond even more flexibly to the demand for complex packaging solutions in the future and shorten the production times for these.”
Daylight, District Heating, and Solar Energy for Sustainable Assembly
The packaging manufacturer has invested around 8 million euros and placed great emphasis on good working conditions and sustainability during the planning and construction of the hall. Light strips not only provide natural daylight and a pleasant indoor climate, but they also save energy. The hall lighting is completely LED technology and is controlled depending on daylight and employee presence. Heat and hot water generation is done using district heating from a nearby biogas plant. Furthermore, the installation of a photovoltaic system on the flat roof is planned for this year. With a capacity of 620 kilowatts peak, the system is expected to generate up to 620,000 kWh of electricity in the future, thus covering the annual energy needs of the hall. The assembly hall thus serves the growth and sustainability goals of the packaging manufacturer equally.
