25. January 2024The Federal Council appointed Christa Hostettler as the new Director of the Federal Office of Transport (BAV) during its meeting on January 24, 2024. The 49-year-old resident of Solothurn has been Head of Market and Customers at PostAuto AG for four years and is a member of the management team. Her future responsibilities will include the further development and financing of public transport and freight transport in Switzerland. Christa Hostettler will take up her new position on August 1, 2024, succeeding Peter Füglistaler, who is retiring.
(Bern) Christa Hostettler studied law at the Université de Genève and the University of Bern. After working as a legal assistant in the Department of the Interior of the Canton of Solothurn, she worked as a lawyer and partner in a law firm, and subsequently as Deputy City Clerk and Chief Legal Officer for the City of Bern. Before her current position at PostAuto AG, she served for five years as Secretary General of the Conference of Directors of Construction, Planning and Environment (BPUK) and the Conference of Directors of Public Transport (KöV).
Preservation and Expansion of Transport Infrastructures
“Christa Hostettler will significantly shape Swiss transport development, with the preservation and expansion of transport infrastructures being central to her tasks as Director of the BAV. Important dossiers will also include the further development and financing of public transport and the digitization for a future-oriented transport system. I look forward to working with Christa Hostettler,” said Transport Minister Albert Rösti. Christa Hostettler will succeed Peter Füglistaler on August 1, 2024, who has led the BAV since 2010 and will retire at the end of July. The Federal Council thanks Mr. Füglistaler for his many years of dedicated service and wishes him all the best.
