Saxon Ports on the Upper Elbe Achieve Their Goals in 2023
Feb 8, 2024 at 7:13 PMLKW WALTER and CFL multimodal are pleased to announce the launch of a new intermodal connection between the intermodal terminal in Bettembourg-Dudelange and the port of Lübeck. This long-standing partnership reaffirms the close ties between LKW WALTER and CFL multimodal, which have successfully collaborated on various routes over the past decade.
(Bettembourg) With three weekly rotations, the new connection will further expand multimodal transport on the North-South axis. From Lübeck, excellent Ro/Ro connections link the mainland with Sweden and Finland. At the same time, the multimodal platform in Bettembourg-Dudelange is ideally located to promote efficient local transport that supports the economy and industrial activities at both national and regional levels, and to provide access to other major European ports and economic centers, such as key transport hubs in France and Spain, like Lyon and Le Boulou.
Forty Craneable Trailers
The train consists of forty craneable trailers and will benefit from an exclusive cross-border traction service provided by CFL cargo, the international railway company and sister company of CFL multimodal. “We value LKW WALTER as a strong partner: Together, we have been able to adapt to the changing needs of the market over the past decade. We decided to use the challenges of today as a driving force for an efficient, multimodal approach, thus reducing our combined CO2 footprint. We are proud that this transport enables a reduction of around 11,700 tons of CO2 emissions per year,” says Sven Löffler, Chief Commercial Officer of CFL multimodal.
New Route is an Important Step
“This new route is an important step in expanding our network for combined transport,” emphasizes Günther Wiesinger, Senior Management Director at LKW WALTER. “It connects Scandinavia and France efficiently, but also expands our services in combined transport between Scandinavia and Spain via the Bettembourg – Le Boulou train. In 2024, LKW WALTER will celebrate its 100th anniversary. For us, this is not only an occasion to look back but also to intensify our efforts for low-CO2 transport. In close collaboration with our partners and customers, we will shape the future of efficient and sustainable transport.”
