METRO LOGISTICS manages fresh logistics for Alnatura
15. February 2024As one of the first companies worldwide, Gruber Logistics is paving the way for decarbonization in the heavy and oversized transport (GST) sector. This is made possible by the Book & Claim solution, which the South Tyrolean logistics provider is now also expanding to its heavy and special transport division, significantly strengthened by the integration of the former Universal Transport.
(Auer/Paderborn) Customers can now also book heavy transports with low-emission fuel, even if this is not physically available on the route or suitable for the cargo. With this, Gruber Logistics is setting a milestone in GST and consistently strengthening its position as an innovative and sustainable logistics company.
“Until now, there has been virtually no option for logistics providers and shippers to improve their CO2 footprint in heavy and oversized transport. Either the technical solution was unsuitable for the cargo dimensions, or sufficient alternative fuels were not available on the routes,” says Holger Dechant, Member of the Board, Gruber Logistics. The combined transport with rail and inland shipping has also rarely been a practical alternative in GST so far. Gruber Logistics promotes loading onto the two environmentally friendly transport modes wherever possible and is in continuous dialogue with political decision-makers and shippers.
Dechant adds: “Ultimately, ecological logistics costs time and money – a price that the parties involved must also be willing to pay. We are convinced that we have found a viable solution for all in heavy and oversized transport with the Book & Claim system, which significantly contributes to sustainability goals in logistics and the economy.”
Book & Claim is comparable to the booking option for green electricity in the energy sector. It enables companies to promote emissions reductions by purchasing fuel quotas and thus actively contribute to environmental protection. Gruber Logistics provides full transparency regarding the emission values of the booked fuel quota by capturing emissions from the production of the fuel to its use.
“This way, we can guarantee our customers a net reduction in CO2 emissions,” says Dechant. To have the environmental benefits and credibility of the system confirmed by neutral third parties, Gruber Logistics has had Book & Claim and the associated data basis independently reviewed by respective organizations.
Andrea Condotta, Public Affairs, Innovation & Sustainability Director at Gruber Logistics, emphasizes: “With Book & Claim, Gruber Logistics is significantly facilitated in implementing low-emission fuels into the customer supply chain. This concept can thus play an important role in accelerating the provision of biofuels such as BioLNG, HVO, and emission-free vehicles such as electric or hydrogen vehicles, enabling us to introduce sustainable solutions even where this was previously not possible.”
Long-standing Commitment to Sustainable Fuels
Gruber Logistics has long been committed to sustainable fuels. As early as 2019, the company was one of the first to invest in LNG trucks powered by BioLNG. The introduction of the Book & Claim solution is the next and consistent step towards further reducing emissions in road transport.
